Водитель DoorDash в Лейк-Чарльз обвиняет компанию в занижении оплаты за доставку

Lake Charles DoorDash driver disputes company’s pay practices LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Terrell Deshotel is a full-time online student studying cybersecurity. Right now, DoorDash is his only source of income, but he says he’s noticed discrepancies in his pay that don’t add up. He says the pattern started with two deliveries to the same address, from two different restaurants. On one, the customer tipped $5, and DoorDash paid Deshotel $7.50 in base pay. On the other, the customer tipped more than double that — $12.75 — but DoorDash’s base pay dropped to just $3. “That’s a 60% drop,” Deshotel said. The two orders were similar distances from the restaurants — a scenario he says he encounters often. “Oh yeah, every day. Every day,” Deshotel said. Deshotel says he has filed complaints with the Federal Trade Commission and the Louisiana Attorney General’s office about the pay differences. He says the state reached out to DoorDash back in June, but DoorDash never responded. The AG’s office said without a response from the company, their hands are tied, leaving Deshotel feeling defeated. “If it wouldn’t be for the drivers, DoorDash wouldn’t be a platform,” Deshotel said. In a statement, DoorDash told 7News: “DoorDash does not change base pay based on the customer’s tip amount on an order. Tips are optional and 100% of the tips that DoorDash receives go to the Dasher. Dashers see their expected earnings upfront and decide for themselves whether to accept an offer, and they’re never paid less than what’s shown.” One possible explanation for the pattern Deshotel and other drivers report is that DoorDash’s algorithm can raise base pay on offers that sit unclaimed, which is more common on lower-tip orders, without the tip amount being the direct cause. Deshotel says that explanation doesn’t change how it feels on his end. “I’m not making what I should be making,” Deshotel said. Deshotel says he plans to keep dashing for now. Copyright 2026 KPLC.
