Kraft Sports & Entertainment is facing a fine of nearly $23,000 from the town of Foxborough after an Usher and Chris Brown concert at Gillette Stadium ran 25 minutes past curfew last week. The Aug. 17 show exceeded Gillette Stadium’s weekday curfew at 11:15 p.m. by 25 minutes, resulting in a $22,760 fine for the stadium’s operating company, Foxborough officials told Boston.com in a statement. Foxborough determines penalties for curfew violations by assessing both the duration of the delay and total event attendance, officials said. Because the Usher and Chris Brown concert ran between 15 and 30 minutes over the scheduled deadline, the fine per attendee was 50 cents, which was then multiplied by the 45,520 people in attendance, according to town documents. If the performance continued over an hour after curfew, the penalty would have escalated to $1.75 per ticket holder, town documents show. The concert, slated to start at 8 p.m., lasted approximately three hours and suffered from technical issues, including a long, unexplained delay early on. The fine of nearly $23,000 ranks among the largest recent penalties Foxborough has imposed for Gillette Stadium events. Prior curfew violations include country artist Morgan Wallen, who was fined $15,705 last summer for running 14 minutes past the 11:30 p.m. cutoff at Gillette Stadium. Back in 2016, the stadium incurred a fine of more than $22,000 when Bruce Springsteen exceeded the town concert curfew by 15 minutes during a four-hour performance. Kraft Sports & Entertainment could not immediately be reached for comment on Monday. Last week’s curfew violation marks the latest point of tension between Foxborough and Kraft Sports. In June, Kraft Sports sued the town, alleging it had improperly used the stadium’s entertainment-license renewal to impose nearly $1 million in annual administrative fees. The town has since filed a counterclaim, arguing Kraft Sports is mischaracterizing contractual obligations. Stay up to date with everything Boston.
