В Харрисонбурге после годовой реконструкции открылся обновленный парк «Детский замок»

Kids Castle reopens after yearlong renovation in Harrisonburg’s Purcell Park HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) - The city of Harrisonburg celebrated the grand opening of the newly renovated Kids Castle playground Tuesday. Families got their first chance to explore the new playground in Purcell Park after more than a year of construction and millions of dollars in upgrades. The original Kids Castle was built in 1990, and construction on the renovation began in May 2025. The project, which cost more than $3 million, incorporates more than 1,000 pieces of public input, according to the city. New features include zip lines, slides, swings, a tricycle track and wooden boardwalks. “Just incredible to watch everybody run through at the same time was kind of like, ‘all right, the culmination is finally here.’ To get this open for the community was fantastic,” said Brian Mancini, director of Harrisonburg Parks and Recreation. For Alan Qambari, the opening was a chance to share a piece of his childhood with his daughter. “My entire childhood, I went to Kids Castle. My mom would take us to the park on the weekends,” Qambari said. “I thought while I was on leave, it’d be something nostalgic. I did it, had my daughter do it as well.” The playground was designed with kids of all ages and accessibility in mind. “The good thing about building the newest playground in Virginia is that you’re able to take the best of what everybody else has. So we did a little bit of that,” Mancini said. “It’s about 80% accessible for every type of disability.” Eight-year-old Thaddeus said his favorite new attraction is the giant 37-foot slide. City leaders said Kids Castle has always attracted families from across the Shenandoah Valley and they hope the upgrades will make it more of a destination. Copyright 2026 WHSV. All rights reserved.
