Клуб Key Club в Индиане помогает школьникам обрести уверенность и чувство принадлежности

STATEWIDE — For some Indiana students, Key Club is more than a place to volunteer, it’s a place where they feel seen, heard and like they belong. Key Club is run through Kiwanis International, which is headquartered in Indianapolis. It gives students opportunities to serve their communities while building confidence and connections. Michelle Study-Campbell, director of Kiwanis Youth Programs at Kiwanis International, says that sense of belonging can make a lasting difference. “I think it’s important that everyone feels like their voices are heard and that they have an opportunity,” Study-Campbell said. Students surveyed at Key Club’s international convention in Dallas this summer reported feeling more connected to their communities and the world around them. They also said they grew more confident in themselves. Study-Campbell believes that happens when students are given a chance to work together and make a difference. “Key Club is one area in the school system where students feel welcomed and wanted,” she said. That impact can start small, with clubs often beginning with around 20 to 30 students and growing as more young people get involved. Zionsville High School is home to one of the largest Key Clubs, with about 500 members. Key Club’s reach is global, serving in 44 countries. Study-Campbell believes Key Club students have a better outlook about the world than their peers do. “Our students are feeling more connected, a greater sense of awareness, and a greater sense of confidence,” said Study-Campbell. For students across Indiana, the goal is bigger than community service. It’s helping young people find their voice, build confidence, and know they have a place where they belong. “Right here in Indiana, a student put down on their annual survey he feels welcomed and wanted,” Study-Campbell added. The organization says that student-led approach gives young people the opportunity to turn their voices into action — and make an impact both inside and outside their schools.
