Регуляторы Кении и Танзании создают совместную стратегию для управления спутниковым интернетом

Telecommunications regulators from Kenya and Tanzania are deepening co-operation to manage the growing footprint of satellite communications, focusing on Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite providers operating across their shared border. Delegates from the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority are in Nairobi for a benchmarking visit with the Communications Authority of Kenya. According to political analyst and journalist Dennis Beru, speaking live from Nairobi, the consultations center on exchanging best practices to navigate the complex policy questions surrounding satellite broadband integration. “The discussion will span regulatory and licensing frameworks, spectrum management, compliance mechanisms, and emerging policy questions around integrating satellite broadband into a national telecom ecosystem,” Beru explained. The joint engagement comes as borderless LEO satellite constellations expand rapidly across Africa, turning signal interference and regulatory enforcement into a shared regional responsibility rather than isolated national issues. Beru noted that regional co-ordination is becoming essential for neighboring states as broadband adoption grows. “Regional benchmarking gives regulators a chance to compare policy approaches, reduce the risk tied to isolated national decisions, and strengthen coordination on cross-border interference management and enforcement,” he said. As satellite internet providers continue their expansion, the Kenya-Tanzania talks are expected to establish a joint framework that balances national telecom priorities with the realities of global satellite infrastructure. –ChannelAfrica–
