Кентуккийский государственный университет представил новый логотип к 140-летию

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky State University has unveiled a new commemorative logo marking its 140th anniversary as the Frankfort institution prepares for a yearlong celebration of its history, public mission and role in the Commonwealth. Founded May 18, 1886, as the State Normal School for Colored Persons, Kentucky State was initially charged with preparing teachers for Kentucky schools. The university has since grown into an institution with responsibilities spanning higher education, research, agriculture, health, technology, workforce development and public service. Today, KSU is Kentucky’s only public historically Black college or university and an 1890 land-grant institution. “For 140 years, Kentucky State University has responded to the needs of its students, its communities, and the Commonwealth,” KSU President Koffi C. Akakpo said. “This anniversary honors the generations who built and sustained this institution and reminds us that our history carries a continuing charge to serve.” Akakpo said the milestone is also an opportunity to look toward the university’s next chapter. “We celebrate where Kentucky State has been and look with confidence toward the future we are building together,” he said. Kentucky State’s yearlong anniversary celebration will begin this fall around Oct. 11, commemorating the anniversary of the university’s first day of classes. That inaugural class consisted of 55 students representing 21 Kentucky counties under the leadership of John Henry Jackson, Kentucky State’s first president. The new anniversary identity incorporates KSU’s signature green and gold and features a representation of historic Jackson Hall along with the number 140. Primary and secondary versions have been created in horizontal, vertical and badge formats for use in print and digital communications, anniversary events, campus signage and other approved applications. The commemorative identity will be used throughout the anniversary year to provide a consistent visual connection among programs and communications celebrating Kentucky State’s history, mission and future. Kentucky State also has released a 140th Anniversary Logo Style Guide establishing requirements for use of the new identity. Under those standards, the logo cannot be stretched, rotated, outlined, recolored, made transparent or altered with visual effects. Appropriate spacing and background contrast also must be maintained. The university said all uses of the 140th anniversary logo require prior approval from KSU. University offices, campus organizations, outside partners, vendors and other organizations seeking to use the anniversary mark must submit a project request to the university or contact its communications office. Official anniversary graphics will be distributed exclusively by Kentucky State. Publication of the style guide does not provide permission to independently reproduce, recreate, alter or distribute the logo. Commercial use of the anniversary mark, including its use on merchandise, promotional products or items offered for sale, is prohibited unless Kentucky State provides advance authorization. The 140th anniversary provides a milestone for an institution whose role has changed significantly since its establishment in the late 19th century. What began as an institution focused on educating Black teachers has evolved into a public university and land-grant institution whose work reaches into Kentucky communities through academic programs, agricultural research and Extension, workforce development and other public-service initiatives. As Kentucky State enters its 140th year, university officials said the anniversary identity is intended to connect that history with KSU’s continuing mission to serve students and the Commonwealth.
