Жители Канзас-Сити обсуждают план безопасности на опасном участке Проспект-авеню

Kansas City looks to improve Prospect Avenue, asking for resident input KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Kansas City says the nearly 2-mile stretch of Prospect Avenue between Linwood Blvd and Emanuel Cleaver II Blvd is part of the city’s “High-Injury Network” and has a deadly crash rate nearly twice the citywide rate. As the city looks to change that, it’s asking residents what they would like to see along the corridor. “This is a project coming out of the Safe Streets for All federal grant,” said Jonathan Feverston, the 3rd District Planner for the City of Kansas City. “It was also something we heard about when we were developing our ProspectUs Equitable Transit Oriented Development Strategic Plan, which was adopted in 2025. That plan really looked at the intersections between how we use our land and how we use our public space. The public space also includes street safety.” Inside Rock of Ages Baptist Church along Prospect Ave on Thursday, the city held a public meeting on the Prospect Avenue Safety Improvements project. Feverston and others with the city walked residents who attended through the project, from its background to possible changes to the corridor to gauge interest. Robin Morgan, the church’s pastor, also calls the neighborhood home. “We’ve [the church] been on this same corner for 50 years,” said Morgan. “I’ve walked along and driven down Prospect, and you see things that you would not like to see. You see things that could be better.” “What we’ve identified early on is that we have poor pedestrian connections between the transit stations,” said Feverston walking through the background of the project. “What we’re looking at when it came to public space improvement in that plan is talking about infrastructure, safety, wayfinding around the Prospect Max bus stations, and also increasing accessibility along the corridor.” Morgan and other residents were able to share their thoughts on the possible changes to Prospect, from curb extensions to a transit-only lane, as well as leave feedback for the city on other ideas they would like to see implemented. Morgan hopes to see those changes sooner, rather than later. “Those are things we would like: reducing driving speed, increased safety,” said Morgan looking at one of the proposed changes. “We would love to see increased business, we would love to see improvement, love to see the blight go away.” The next phase of the project, the final design with additional community engagement, will likely start next month. Construction is projected to start in mid-2027. Before that, the city says it would like to continue to hear from residents, who can provide their input through SpeakEasy KCMO. Copyright 2026 KCTV.
