Сцена с речью Иэна Малкольма признана самой важной в франшизе «Парк юрского периода»

Jurassic Park has plenty of iconic moments, from the first reveal of the towering Brachiosaurus to when the T-Rex attacks the Ford Explorer. And no Jurassic Park fan could forget the kitchen scene with the raptors or Dennis Nedry's unfortunate encounter with a Dilophosaurus. However, the most important scene in the entire Jurassic Park franchise doesn't involve a dinosaur at all and lasts only about a minute and a half. Specifically, it is a 90-second speech that tears apart the philosophy behind Jurassic Park. Though it doesn't last long, in that short amount of time, Ian Malcolm explains what is wrong with John Hammond's creation, what is wrong with humanity's relationship with technology, and what will go wrong in essentially every Jurassic Park movie that follows. Ian Malcolm Immediately Sees What John Hammond Doesn't John Hammond sees Jurassic Park as a miracle, and somewhat understandably so, as he has accomplished something humanity has never accomplished before. His scientists used genetic engineering to recreate dinosaurs, which were extinct for millions of years, and Hammond is fascinated by what they achieved. Although Malcolm is impressed by what they pulled off, he knows that it goes against everything he has studied. When Hammond explains that his scientists have effectively brought dinosaurs back to life, Malcolm immediately becomes concerned – not because the science exists, but because of the arrogance surrounding it. Malcolm's famous warning is simple: "Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should." It is one of the most famous lines in Jurassic Park for a reason. The Jurassic Park franchise was never just about dinosaurs; it was also about humanity believing it could control nature. Hammond and his team have taken something extraordinarily complicated, like millions of years of evolution, and treated it like a product that can be manufactured, packaged, and sold to the general public. The exchange between Malcolm and Hammond only lasts around a minute and a half, and in that time, Malcolm not only criticizes Hammond's business plan but also identifies the fundamental flaw in the entire project. Human beings have created something they don't fully understand and immediately convinced themselves that they can control it. As Malcolm mentions, these dinosaurs reproduce, adapt, and behave unpredictably, making them almost impossible to control, no matter how many technological safeguards they put up. Malcolm's Other Famous Line Proves He Was Right Malcolm's warning about the scientists was not the only one he made in Jurassic Park. Earlier in Steven Spielberg's film, he makes another observation that turns out to be just as important. Hammond believes he has eliminated the possibility of dinosaur reproduction by making all the dinosaurs female. This would solve a major problem with population control of the dinosaurs, if it actually worked. As Malcolm put it, " Life finds a way," and it is later revealed that the dinosaurs are able to reproduce when a nest of eggs is found. That moment is essentially the movie demonstrating Malcolm's argument in real time. While Hammond thought he had identified every possible variable, all he did was give himself and his team a false sense of security. The Rest of the Jurassic Park Franchise Further Proves Malcolm Right This is why Malcolm's scene is so much more important than its runtime suggests. Nearly every major conflict in the franchise can be traced back to the same mistake. Corporations see an opportunity to make money and task scientists who are too curious to say no, despite it always ending badly. The easiest way to dismiss the original movie's disaster would be to blame Jurassic Park itself: maybe Hammond simply didn't build the park properly, the security system wasn't sophisticated enough, or the technology needed improvement. But the rest of the franchise proves why that interpretation doesn't work. In The Lost World, the dinosaurs are now living on Isla Sorna without a functioning theme park around them. Without any staff, scientists, or visitors, the dinosaurs are running wild and can finally be left alone, but InGen wants to exploit the animals again. The creatures that were supposed to be a scientific achievement once again become another corporate opportunity. Jurassic Park III changes protagonists, setting, and dinosaurs, but it doesn't abandon the franchise's central idea. Billy Brennan steals Velociraptor eggs to sell because he believes he has a legitimate reason for doing it: to continue Dr. Grant's research. But this is simply another version of Malcolm's argument. The Jurassic Park movies aren't necessarily warning that evil people will misuse science. They are warning that ordinary, intelligent people can make disastrous decisions because they are convinced they know what they're doing. When Jurassic World comes out 14 years later, Malcolm’s warning is once again ignored, and the film is not subtle with that message. Humanity has rebuilt the dinosaur park, and this time, it is completely safe because technology has finally caught up. However, it's so safe that the public has grown accustomed to the dinosaurs, leading scientists to create the Indominus Rex. This is the "could vs. should" argument taken to its logical extreme. While the original Jurassic Park was built around resurrecting dinosaurs, Jurassic World begins to modify them because resurrecting dinosaurs isn't spectacular enough anymore. The Indominus exists because the customers need a bigger attraction. Of course, humans immediately discover that they have created something they cannot control when the Indominus escapes, and Malcolm is proven right once again. Later Jurassic Park Movies Prove the Dinosaurs Were Never the Real Problem Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom pushes Malcolm's idea even further, with dinosaurs being captured, sold, and even weaponized. The franchise has moved from asking whether humans should resurrect extinct animals to asking whether humans should have the right to own and sell them. If the Indominus Rex was created to make a better attraction, the new dinosaur creation, the Indoraptor, represents the next step: creating a dinosaur specifically because humans want to use it as a weapon. This is a twist on Malcolm's warning; unlike the other dinosaurs, the Indoraptor was created with ill intent in mind. However, an uncontrollable dinosaur is a really bad weapon if you don't also plan to get hurt by it. Jurassic World Dominion has the franchise's argument evolve beyond dinosaurs. By now, prehistoric creatures are no longer confined to an island. For better or worse, they are a part of the world's ecosystem. However, the movie introduces another example of humans manipulating nature for corporate purposes with genetically engineered locusts that threaten agriculture on a massive scale. In Jurassic World Rebirth, most of Earth's climate is unsuitable for the de-extinct animals, so the remaining dinosaurs survive in equatorial regions, where it is illegal for humans to travel. Of course, this doesn’t stop a pharmaceutical company from paying some mercenaries and a paleontologist to travel there to get DNA samples needed to cure a cardiovascular disease. At first, it seems like they are doing something good by helping create something that could save countless lives, but Zora and Dr. Loomis know it will only be accessible to the rich and will only be used to deepen the pockets of those who hired them. After a quick trip to a dinosaur-infested island goes wrong, Zora and Dr. Loomis decide to make the genetic material they acquired open source to the world, despite it costing them generational wealth. In what will hopefully not be the final Jurassic Park movie, a character in Rebirth finally asked if they should, tracing everything back to Ian Malcolm's original argument. It may have only lasted 90 seconds, but Malcolm's iconic warning was one of the most important scenes in the Jurassic Park franchise because it aptly predicted everything that would follow.
