Бывший беженец из Мьянмы Джошуа Ван стал чемпионом UFC и заключил сделку с букмекером Rainbet

Joshua Van's Journey from Myanmar to UFC Champion Now Includes a Major Sportsbook Deal Joshua Van's remarkable rise from a refugee camp to UFC champion highlights his resilience and determination. Joshua Van's career journey did not begin in the bright lights of the UFC. Joshua is originally from Myanmar. At the age of nine, he and his family relocated to Malaysia, where they stayed in a refugee camp for some years. Joshua and his family then immigrated to the US in 2013 and settled in Houston. Houston has been a city that has defined both his career and his personal life. Many from Houston feel that Joshua is one of their representatives, and he considers the city his home. Houston Became Home For Van, the journey towards becoming a fighter does not have a typical narrative of a promising young athlete with big dreams. Upon arriving in Houston, he was just a child who needed time to adapt to a new country, a new language and a completely new environment. He was often bullied for not speaking English and had many fights before his family figured out a way to keep him out of trouble by temporarily sending him to live in Iowa with his aunt. His trip to Iowa was actually a turning point in his life. While staying with his aunt, Van met a friend who introduced him to MMA and encouraged him to take up the sport. His aunt also encouraged him to channel his energy into something positive. Van started training both on his own and with trainers after arriving back in Houston from Iowa. From Restaurant Work to UFC Van did not start training professionally until he was 19, much later than many elite athletes begin their careers. He worked at a restaurant before he started training professionally. His story is very relatable to many immigrants, as they see him as a person achieving something exceptional despite unbearably tough circumstances. Van made his debut as a professional in 2021 and joined the UFC in June 2023. His rapid ascent up the UFC ladder then began. He compiled an impressive record and regularly stepped up to take on tough opponents. One of Van's best moments in his career was in 2025 when he beat Brandon Royval by decision in a last-minute fight. The Night He Made History Van won the UFC flyweight title on 6 December 2025, during the UFC 323 bout against Alexandre Pantoja. The fight lasted only 26 seconds, with Van winning the championship by TKO after Pantoja injured his arm. He became the only champion born in Myanmar in UFC history. Van also holds the distinction of being the second-youngest champion in UFC history, having won the title at 24. However, the conditions under which the win was achieved raised some controversy because of how quickly the fight ended, but Van was able to get past the controversy. In May 2026, he defended the championship and defeated Tatsuro Taira in the fifth round. This fight gave Van a successful title defence and provided an answer to the question regarding whether he deserves the title. More Than a Championship What makes Van's story different from the usual is what his success means beyond the UFC record. He is a Myanmar-born fighter representing the pinnacle of the sport, yet at the same time he is strongly connected with Houston, the city of his upbringing as an immigrant. His accomplishment made him the first-ever UFC champion raised in Houston. Moreover, his career has been recognized by Burmese and Chin immigrants who relate to Van's background. He is also fluent in Burmese and English, and he has managed to remain faithful to both aspects of his identity instead of sacrificing one for the other. Van's hard times in the past do not detract from his achievements but rather make them more significant. A UFC championship symbolizes the progress his family has made across generations. A New Chapter With Rainbet That growing profile is now moving beyond the UFC itself. Van has entered a partnership with Rainbet, a sportsbook whose connection with the young champion is another sign that his name now carries value outside the cage. The partnership comes at an important time in his career. Van is no longer simply a promising fighter who is trying to get noticed. He is a UFC champion with a story that can reach sports fans, immigrant communities and general audiences. Commercial partnerships often follow that kind of growth because they reflect public attention around an athlete. In Van's case, the timing is especially notable because his championship success has happened so recently. His journey from Myanmar to Malaysia, from Malaysia to Huston, and from Huston gyms to a UFC championship, Van has built a personal story that stands apart from the usual athlete profile. His Story Is Still Growing Van's commercial rise does not mean that his success is complete. Even at 24, Van is very young by UFC standards, and winning the belt has added pressure to every future fight he competes in. As Van was able to defend the flyweight title against Tatsuro Taira in May 2026, there is already a scheduled rematch with Pantoja set for 19 September 2026. For fans following his next chapter, a Live UFC Odds Tracker is one way to follow the expectations around major UFC matchups, although odds are only a snapshot and can change quickly. What is much more important for the legacy of Van, however, is the fact that he came from Myanmar, lived in a refugee camp, grew up in Houston and is now the UFC champion. Van's new deal with Rainbet makes all he endured hit even deeper. © Copyright IBTimes 2026. All rights reserved.
