As part of its expansion, Jersey Freeze recently opened a new location in Middlesex County at 1447 NJ-18 Ste. 5 in Old Bridge. This new Jersey Freeze still serves the franchise's signature soft serve cones filled with natural ingredients and multiple machines that enable a range of flavors and emphasize high-quality ingredients. "Nobody does soft serve like us," said Cangialosi, according to My Central Jersey. "We use the highest quality cream base, and we have recipes that are 75 years old." Carlton Blackmore and a partner started the original shop on the Freehold Circle in 1952. Bruce Springsteen visited the Freehold store as a kid, then wrote about it in his autobiography, "Born to Run." The rock star still stops by, ordering vanilla soft serve with a chocolate shell. Matt Cangialosi and business partner Katie Di Nonno bought the company in 2014, then began growing it in 2019. Di Nonno worked at the Freehold shop as a teen back in the 1990s and stayed on for years. The partners opened Bell Works in Holmdel during 2020, then added Colts Neck in 2025. Four corporate shops exist now: Freehold, Holmdel, Colts Neck, and Old Bridge. Three franchise stores will open soon in Shrewsbury, Hazlet, and Naples, Florida. "We always had the idea of building the brand and expanding," Cangialosi said. "We just didn't want to do it too quickly, and we didn't want to just go anywhere." Matt Borowski joined as a partner for Colts Neck and Old Bridge. Borowski owns Mezcal, 618 Restaurant, and Elizabeth's Italian. The trio has been friends for 15 years. "We didn't want to become one of these 100 that pop up and then close. We're very particular on who we're going to allow to operate these stores and continue the tradition," Cangialosi said. The plan involves growing slowly, opening corporate shops next to franchise ones. Owners will sell territory only to people who share their commitment to being part of communities. "When we say tradition, we also mean how we are with the community, how we operate," Cangialosi said. "We're not just a business. We're part of the community."
