Кандидат от Демпартии Клид Джонс отказался от дебатов с республиканцем Джерри Карлом

Jerry Carl declines debate challenge from Clyde Jones MOBILE, Ala. (NBC 15) — Clyde Jones, the Democratic congressional candidate for District 1, is challenging Republican Jerry Carl to a debate after Carl secured 74.7% of the vote in Tuesday’s special primary election. Jones posted on social media Wednesday morning that voters deserve to hear where the two candidates stand on the issues. “I am challenging Mr. Carl to at least one debate, if not more. Let the voters hear from us and make an informed choice when they vote for their representative in November. I look forward to this opportunity and to hearing back from Mr. Carl about a debate schedule.” Carl told NBC 15 News he will not accept the challenge. “A debate only brings life to the Democrats’ socialist platform. We feel confident in our ability to bring our America First and Alabama values ideas directly to the Alabama voters. We will not commit to any debates at this time,” said Carl. Statewide, voter turnout for Tuesday’s special primary races in Congressional Districts 1, 2, 6 and 7 was just 5.24%. In District 1, 31,225 people voted. Carl received 23,325 votes, while Austin Sidwell finished second with 5,505 votes. John Mills came in third with 1,815 votes, and Lucas Burger finished fourth with 580 votes, according to the unofficial election night results on the Alabama Secretary of State's website. Carl previously represented Alabama’s 1st Congressional District in the U.S. House from 2021 to 2025. Clyde released the following statement Thursday: I am challenging Mr. Carl to at least one debate, if not more. Let the voters hear from us and make an informed choice when they vote for their representative in November. I look forward to this opportunity and to hearing back from Mr. Carl about a debate schedule.” Carl told multiple he will not accept the challenge, and claims “A debate only brings life to the Democrats’ socialist platform. We feel confident in our ability to bring our America First and Alabama values ideas directly to the Alabama voters. We will not commit to any debates at this time,” said Carl. Jones rebutted, "Our platform won't be to push an agenda, but to hear directly from our constituents and aid them in their voting decisions with a side by side policy comparison. By not attending a debate, Jerry is putting politics and name calling over letting constituents hear the opinions and voices of their possible representatives. Jerry legislated zero bills that became law in his term as a Congressman, and Alabama CD1 residents want to hear his plans straight from the source. You will only be able to hide behind “I’m going to support Trump” and “Democrats are Socialists” for so long before people want to hear about what you are going to actually do to help fix issues in our country, and improve their quality of life. We respect our voters enough to know that we need to EARN their vote, and that includes giving them an opportunity to hear our platform face-to-face. As a Veteran, I find it cowardly not to give them that opportunity. Our campaign will be hosting both virtual and in-person town halls all over the district, whether Jerry shows up or not."
