The service is available on metro, funicular and bus services operated and managed by Unico Campania, which oversees the integrated fare and ticketing system for public transport in Italy's Campania region, including Naples. Passengers can board by tapping a JCB contactless-enabled card or a smartphone configured with a JCB card at ticket gates or payment terminals. JCB said the service removes the need to buy tickets in advance and includes automatic calculation of the lowest applicable fare based on travel history. JCB cards can also be used to buy tickets at in-person ticket counters, broadening payment options across the local public transport network. The Naples rollout expands an existing collaboration between JCB and Nexi. The two companies introduced a similar contactless transit payment system in Rome in May 2024, and plan to extend the service gradually to additional routes and services across Campania, the release said. JCB is the only international card brand originating from Japan. Its contactless payment service allows cardholders to pay by tapping compatible cards or smartphones at enabled terminals, although higher-value transactions may still require card insertion and PIN entry.
