Jackson residents report blue stains in tubs, sinks JACKSON, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - Blue rings have been showing up in tubs and sinks across Jackson. Residents have sent photos of tubs, toilets and shower curtains stained with a blue ring. Patrick Kling said his tub was affected. “A couple months ago it started turning blue,” Kling said. “We moved in December and the tub was nice and white.” Residents have also posted about the issue on social media. One resident posted: “We’ve had a blue tub for months. Stains our wash rags blue, as well.” Another posted: “Everything the water touches slowly turns green/blue.” Another posted: “I will be at the board meeting with a cup of water you drink this.” Kling said he wants answers. ‘Out of nowhere, it hit me’: Swimmer fights off alligator attack in Savannah River A man is receiving medical care after he was bitten by an alligator in North Augusta over the weekend. “I just like to know, you know, if our water is safe, if it actually does conform to the, you know, EPA or whatever the governing standards are,” Kling said. “Because a lot of people say it does not. And I, you know, I’d like to know if we can drink and use our water.” The town’s latest water quality report from 2025 shows the water is safe to drink. The report shows elevated sodium levels. The report also notes one violation in July. The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services told the station the violation was not a water quality issue but a paperwork issue. In an email, SCDES said the town missed a July 1 deadline to certify it had notified six homes served by aging galvanized pipes that need replacing. The town said the paperwork issue has since been resolved. Kling said the water bill increased about two months ago to cover the cost of replacing the pipes. In 2019, the mayor warned residents about the town’s aging water infrastructure but said fixing it was nearly impossible without the budget or grants to pay for it. 3-Degree Guarantee: Project Refresh gets $1,000 The News 12 First Alert team was 95% accurate for the month of July, which means another $1,000 from Tub Doctor. The director of the water department said crews installed a new water line in town about two months ago. To bring the line online, crews use a chlorine treatment to disinfect it, which the director identified as the likely cause of the blue rings. Sample results from July show chlorine levels are within the normal range. The director said the blue rings are expected to fade any day now. Kling said he’s stopped drinking the water. “We bring water here for the dog or the fish,” Kling said. The town is slowly upgrading its water system line by line. City leaders are in the process of applying for a state grant to cover the cost of another main water line. Copyright 2026 WRDW/WAGT. All rights reserved.
