Мотокросс-марафон Isle of Van собрал почти 80 тысяч долларов для трех благотворительных организаций

Isle of Van 9-Hour Motorcycle Endurance Challenge raises nearly $80K for 3 Cowichan charities Published 5:00 pm Wednesday, September 2, 2026 On track to success. The Isle of Van 9-Hour Motorcycle Endurance Challenge celebrated its fourth year at the Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit on Aug. 23 where 17 rider teams revved up to make a difference. Organizer Mark Higginbottom estimated a turnout of 1,500 people, which he says felt like double compared to last year. “It was a big improvement from last year,” said Higginbottom. “The big difference this year was that people were spending more time at the event. Last year I would estimate the average visit was around 60 minutes, while this year, the average visit lasted a little over two hours. It’s becoming a more complete event, and people are enjoying their time more fully now, which is so great to see.” Also great to see, was all the generosity that made the event possible — not just the 30 hardworking volunteers, but riders and Cowichan Therapeutic Riding Association staff, who assisted with breakfast and lunch. “Sunday was indeed a great day,” said volunteer Brian McArthur. “The weather co-operated and the riders competed hard all day with only a couple of minor incidents resulting in an exciting conclusion.” Then there was the fundraising. About $1,500 was raised in food sales and approximately $7,000 through the silent auction, helping to break last year’s grand total record with $81,765 for 2026. Out of the lump sum of $76,265; $32,840 was donated to Cowichan Brain Injury Society, $25,995 went to Canadian Mental Health Association-Cowichan Branch, while $17,430 went to CTRA. “The Isle of Van team doesn’t just raise money — they show up,” said CBIS executive director Shelley Kuecks. “Last year, their support helped CBIS through one of our most challenging periods and allowed us to keep showing up for the people who depend on us. This year, their support will help us grow our services and expand our outreach. There is something very special about people who take something they love, and use it to make life better for others. That spirit is at the heart of Isle of Van.” Cowichan CMHA executive director Stuart Andrie echoed the appreciation. “These funds strengthen our ability to provide mental health supports, outreach, crisis response, and safe shelter through our youth programs,” Andrie said. “Every dollar helps us reach young people who are facing significant challenges, and your team’s commitment ensures that these supports remain strong and accessible.” CTRA executive director Jill O’Neill said the fundraiser helps many local nonprofits doing important work. “When you support this fundraiser, you are investing in the organizations that are on the ground every day, responding to growing needs and making a difference for children, youth, adults, families and individuals throughout our community,” O’Neill said. “We are incredibly grateful to everyone who supports the Isle of Van and the nonprofits it benefits; every donation helps us keep saying yes when someone reaches out looking for support.” Also critical, when it came to both success, and the safety of event was its medical team, and the Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit team. Mark your calendars, as the Isle of Van will be putting the fast and the fun in their annual fundraiser on Aug. 22, 2027. “It feels great to be a part of an organization that brings good times together with a good cause,” said Higginbottom. “Sometimes the pieces just naturally fit together and that’s where you’ll find success. We’ve already got some big plans in the works for 2027. The best is yet to come.”
