Last week, swissQprint America embarked on a whole new chapter with the opening of its brand new facility in West Dundee, IL.
The new space, which spans 25,000 sqft, is meant to help bring people together, and give customers a true opportunity to see the heights they can reach with swissQprint equipment.
“We want to invest in our customers, and we realized that in the space we had, we were limited in the amount of training we can provide, service offerings that we could develop and create, and we want to continue to build on that legacy and provide more of that to our customers,” Erik Norman, president of swissQprint America, said.
The building is equipped with a large showroom to showcase equipment and offerings, a center for the refurbishment of older generation equipment, and plenty of office space that swissQprint hopes to occupy as the company continues on its growth path.
And speaking of growth path, Norman said that swissQprint has pre-planned for an additional 15,000 sqft — he said it might take them a minute to get there, but hopes for the future are at an all-time high.
During his presentation, Norman also addressed the a so-called elephant in the room – economic uncertainty plaguing the industry. However, even in times of unrest and uncertainty, Norman said, forging a path ahead is the most important thing.
“We're putting down roots at a time where, let's face it, there are some uncertainties that come up, but my view is there's always uncertainties. When things get gray, push in, press ahead, make the choices, maybe change tactics every now and then, but keep forward on the strategy. If you got a good strategy, make the investments you need to make, and we're living that out here. We're making substantial investment here, so that we can better serve the community of print service providers that we work with every day,” Norman said.
Speaking of PSPs that swissQprint works with every day, in attendance were several swissQprint customers, including George Gross, CEO of Infinity Images — who fondly looked back on his experience with swissQprint at the event.
Gross was initially introduced to swissQprint’s Nyala 2 nine years ago at drupa, and in 2024, upgraded to a Kudu.
“I have to say that the application capability [of these] machines is very high, reliability is very high, and what I like, especially in my application port, is that when we think of something that we want to do, we can call on the phone and the applications people are really, really good. So, if they haven't encountered it, they'll give you a solution, but likely they've seen it,” Gross said. “They're excellent machines that last a really a long time, and I thought so highly of it. After nine years, I bought another one that was a little bit more beautiful, so I've appreciated it as well.”
Dan Thompson, CEO and founder of Italic inc. in Canada, also reflected on his journey with swissQprint.
“We were an early adopter of swissQ Technology Canada, and what that's enabled us to do is grow our specialty markets, and it's not about speed per second, it is natural, but at the beginning it was just about capability,” Thompson said.
And after years with an earlier flatbed model, Thompson shared that Italic is also on the upgrade path with a new Kudu.
Suffice it to say that the new swissQprint building helps illuminate a bright trajectory for not just the OEM, but the industry as a whole.
“We love print, and we hope everybody else does too, because print is tangible. It connects, you can touch it, you feel it, it creates a connection with people, you can't get that as much in the digital space. And so, print is vibrant, it's alive, it's growing, and we love to be playing a key part in the future of print technology,” Norman said.
