Индийская армия напомнила солдатам о необходимости строгого соблюдения секретности даже в отпуске

Indian Army once again reminded to its soldiers to maintain operational secrecy at all times, even during vacation. An Indian Army Fact Check post on X warned officers and soldier to avoid sharing of security-related information with any non-army person, even while seemingly casual or informal chat with them. Army’s advisory to their personnel not to reveal details about troop movement and timings, location and route, induction of new equipment and about unit routines and movements. This includes not just intentional leaks. Aseemingly inconspicuous remark might eventually give away strategic information without the service member realizing it at all. For instance, detailing which regiment moved, where it has been deployed, or when new equipment was inducted might not appear to be that informative in isolation. However, when such information is aggregated andpieced together from various individuals’ accounts, there is no telling what clear a picture of ongoing operations would emerge; they don’t even need access to a classified briefing to be able to construct a intelligence picture. Information compiled and analyzed in bits and pieces from different sources can lead to identification of trends like military’s movement and its cycles of deployment and capabilities. The Indian Army’s reminder is much pertinent in the current age of information where the usage of social media, mobile messaging applications, or seemingly normal conversations in daily life can all be turned into source of publicly available information; one of crucial lessons from this advisory is to maintain a vigil on operational security while soldiers remain outside of unit area of operations. During vacations soldiers naturally encounter families, friends and people from general population. Indian Army’s advisory is not to refrain from socialization, rather to keep careful watch over troop’s interactions with outside population should their conversations move to army related matters.
