Listeners: Top listeners: 95.3 The Farm 98.7 Lite FM WHOP AM Hopkinsville native Montréale Jones was announced as the 2026 winner of Harvard University’s Clifford Wong Prize in Housing Design in July for his intergenerational housing project “Rows and Bows.” Jones was born and raised in Hopkinsville and graduated from Christian County High School. He then attended Hopkinsville Community College and later received a bachelor’s degree in architecture and a graduate degree in urban and environmental design from the University of Kentucky. Jones continued his academic journey at Harvard in 2024 and is currently a student in the university’s Graduate School for Design. The Clifford Wong Prize was established in 1990 and goes to one architectural project each year that uses innovative housing designs. Jones’ winning project “Rows and Bows” is the blueprint for a residential complex with communal spaces such as a bathhouse, rooftop gathering spaces, a community courtyard and much more. The housing project also includes a rainwater collection system and natural ventilation. Jones says the housing units are inspired by the row and bow-styled houses in Boston. He also found inspiration for the project during a trip he took to Tunisia in January. In Tunisia, Jones saw natural oases and ancient bathhouses, which made him think about the relationship between humans and water. He says people have rituals and recreational activities surrounding water, and it also impacts the pace of life, so he decided to incorporate water in his project. When he submitted his project for the prize, Jones says he was confident about his odds of winning but was still in disbelief when he found out he won. He says one of his former professors congratulated him on the win and complimented him for imagining what housing could be. He was among around 40 students who submitted projects for the prize. After he graduates, Jones says he plans to search for international architectural fellowships to expand his work experience and develop international connections.
