Hirose has unveiled the GT37 Series wire-to-board connector designed for high-speed automotive Ethernet applications. As vehicle architectures incorporate more electronic control units, cameras, sensors, displays, communication modules, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), protecting sensitive signals from electromagnetic interference (EMI) has become a critical design consideration. The GT37 Series addresses this challenge with a fully shielded connector structure designed to maintain signal integrity in electrically noisy automotive environments.
The GT37 Series supports 1000BASE-T1 automotive Ethernet connectivity, enabling reliable Gigabit data transmission over a single twisted-pair cable for bandwidth-intensive vehicle systems. This capability simplifies harness architecture by reducing wiring volume compared to larger multi-pair Ethernet connections. An optimized cable strip length supports efficient hand-crimping operations, helping harness assemblers achieve consistent termination without unnecessarily complex preparation steps.
The connector design eliminates the need to cut the inner cable sheath during assembly, reducing processing steps and improving workflow efficiency.
The sleeve-component design also removes the need to apply commercial copper tape, further streamlining shield termination and reducing the number of assembly materials required. In addition, the GT37 Series incorporates impedance matching at the stripped-cable section to maintain transmission performance through the termination area, an important consideration for reliable Gigabit Ethernet communication in demanding automotive environments.
The GT37 Series is compatible with standard automotive harnesses and requires no dedicated processing equipment, allowing use with manual and standard assembly processes.
Designed for space-constrained automotive systems, the GT37 Series connector features a two-position interface measuring 8.6 mm wide by 10.6 mm high, conserving valuable PCB space.
The connector incorporates a dual-lock mechanism with a clear tactile feel, giving assemblers positive confirmation that the connector is fully mated and securely locked to help prevent incomplete engagement or unintended disconnection in demanding automotive applications.
“With the shift toward vehicle electrification and autonomous driving, the number of cameras, sensors, displays and electronic control units are growing rapidly, along with the volume of data that must move reliably throughout the vehicle,” said Pete Lais, Assistant Vice President of Product Management for Hirose Electric Americas. “Conventional CAN and LIN networks remain important for many functions, but their transmission speeds cannot meet the bandwidth requirements of next-generation ADAS, automated-driving, and connected-vehicle systems. Automotive Ethernet provides the high-speed, scalable networking foundation these architectures require, and the GT37 Series helps designers implement reliable 1000BASE-T1 connectivity with shielding, compact packaging, and simplified harness assembly.”
