Article content Recommended Videos Article content The Distinguished Humanist Award recognizes individuals whose sustained leadership, service and commitment have made a significant contribution to the humanist movement. In announcing Henrich’s selection, Humanist Canada President Martin Frith described the award as recognizing “enduring leadership, service, and commitment” that has helped shape humanism in Canada. Henrich’s involvement with Humanist Canada spans many years and several leadership roles. She remains actively involved through Humanist Canada’s Morgentaler Committee, which focuses on reproductive rights, bodily autonomy, and access to evidence-based reproductive health information. Article content In its letter announcing the award, Humanist Canada credited Henrich’s work with strengthening the organization and advancing causes central to its mission, particularly human rights, bodily autonomy and compassionate service. The Board noted that the award followed a nomination process and reflected what it characterized as a lifetime of principled leadership and dedicated service. Although much of Henrich’s work has taken place at the national level, she has remained closely connected to humanism in Grey and Bruce counties. Through the Grey Bruce Humanists, she has helped support a local community for people interested in humanism, critical thinking, evidence-based decision-making, human rights and the development of an ethical life grounded in human experience rather than religious doctrine. The local organization brings people together through regular gatherings, public education, and community initiatives, while providing a place for people who share humanist values to meet, exchange ideas, and contribute to their community. Article content Humanist Canada’s recognition places Henrich among those whose long-term contributions have helped build and sustain organized humanism in Canada. Frith thanked Henrich for her years of service, courage and “unwavering commitment to humanism,” describing her work as having created a lasting legacy within the organization and the broader humanist community. For the Grey Bruce Humanists, the award also recognizes a member of the local community whose volunteer leadership has extended well beyond Grey and Bruce counties and contributed to the development of humanism nationally.
