Мужчина запретил сыну играть с куклой, считая игрушку исключительно для девочек

I used to babysit for this lovely family, and they had four girls and a boy named Jimmy who was the middle child. Jimmy was the easiest-going little guy ever, and his sisters would insist on playing with Barbies or baby dolls, and he would totally go along with it. I actually asked the dad once what he thought about Jimmy playing with dolls because I had never seen anything like it before, and I had a corner on the babysitting market in my neighborhood. The dad responded that he hoped it would help Jimmy grow up to be an amazing dad and husband one day, and he actually encouraged Jimmy to be in the mix with the girls and Barbies. Anyway, since traditional gender roles are largely no longer subscribed to, do you think that this means little boys should be allowed to play with dolls, and do you agree with Jimmy’s dad? A couple of weeks back, this woman’s 20-month-old son was hugging and playing with someone’s baby doll. He was also pretending to feed the doll and was obviously having a grand old time with the toy. “He was sad when the doll was taken away. Afterward, I asked my husband if we could buy him a baby doll because he seemed to have so much fun playing with them, and I was reading that playing with dolls can help kids develop helpful skills, but my husband said no and was adamant that dolls are for girls,” she explained. Earlier today, she was out shopping with her son, and they walked by an aisle full of dolls. Her son spotted a doll he liked and reached his hands out toward it. The doll was so cheap, only $5, and he desperately wanted it. Against her husband’s wishes, she purchased the doll for her son, who was elated to have it. “When we got back from the store, my husband was annoyed that I didn’t listen to him and wants me to return the doll because he thinks that it’s too girly, and he doesn’t want our son playing with girl toys,” she added. “Do you guys let your toddler boys play with dolls or other toys that are generally considered to be for girls, or am I weird for thinking that him playing with dolls if he wants isn’t a big deal?” Ok, so there actually was a study published back in March of this year in Plos One about how kids (boys and girls included) can develop social skills and imagination through playing with dolls. I do think her husband is ridiculous for not wanting her son to play with a doll. She should hide it when her husband is around and keep letting her son have the toy. What do you think?
