Bermuda’s Hamilton Princess Is the Classic Island Hotel We Loved, With Harbor Views, Standout Food and Exceptional Service
The Hamilton Princess & Beach Club in Bermuda combines one of the island’s great historic hotels with superb dining, harbor views and a level of service that stayed with us long after checkout.
There are hotels you admire, and then there are hotels you miss almost immediately after leaving. Hamilton Princess & Beach Club in Bermuda fell firmly into the second category on our recent stay.
We loved it — the food, the harbor view, the service and, above all, the little things. The Hamilton Princess has become one of our favorite ways to experience Bermuda because the history never feels detached from the experience; it is a classic hotel that still delivers the kind of attentive, personal stay that luxury hotels are supposed to provide.
That’s the real story of the Hamilton Princess right now. After a major renovation of its Bermudiana Wing, the hotel is looking refreshed, but what impressed us most had nothing to do with new furniture or finishes: it was how consistently thoughtful the experience felt.
The Service Is the First Thing We Remember
Great hotel service can be difficult to describe because so much of it happens in small interactions.
That was exactly what struck us during our stay at the Hamilton Princess.
People remembered things. Requests were handled quickly. Staff interactions had warmth without becoming scripted, and there was an ease to the whole experience that made the hotel feel comfortable almost immediately.
Those details accumulated during the stay.
It was the kind of service where you realize after a day or two that you have stopped thinking about logistics. Things have been taken care of before they become inconveniences.
That is increasingly rare, even at high-end resorts.
The Hamilton Princess has all of the physical components of a luxury hotel, but the service is what turns them into a complete stay.
One of Bermuda’s Great Views
Then there is the setting.
The Hamilton Princess sits directly on Hamilton Harbour, giving much of the property a broad waterfront outlook that becomes part of almost everything you do here.
We kept coming back to the view during our recent stay.
The harbor stretches out beyond the terraces and marina, with boats moving across the water and the city of Hamilton right behind you. The hotel gives you that unusual combination: a waterfront resort feel without putting you far from restaurants, shops and the center of town.
That is a huge part of its appeal.
You can walk into Hamilton in minutes, come back for lunch overlooking the harbor, spend the afternoon at the pool and still feel connected to Bermuda beyond the hotel.
1609 Was One of the Best Parts of the Stay
Then there was 1609 Bar & Restaurant.
This was one of the highlights of our stay, and not only because the food was excellent.
The setting is superb.
You are right on the water, looking across Hamilton Harbour from an open-air dining room that feels completely tied to the marina below it. Boats move in and out, the harbor fills the view and the restaurant has the kind of setting that makes you want to stay at the table longer than you planned.
And then there was the salmon.
We had the salmon at 1609, and it was excellent — exactly the kind of dish that sounds straightforward on the menu and then becomes one of the things you remember afterward.
That meal captured a lot of what we liked about the Hamilton Princess.
The view was special, the food delivered, the service was attentive and the whole experience felt easy.
It is one thing to have a restaurant with a great setting.
It is another when the cooking is good enough to keep your attention even with Hamilton Harbour right in front of you.
1609 did both.
The Food Was a Highlight Across the Hotel
That meal was part of a broader dining experience that consistently impressed us.
Hotel dining can sometimes feel like an amenity rather than a reason to stay somewhere. At the Hamilton Princess, eating became a real part of the trip.
This is a hotel where eating well is built into the experience rather than treated as an afterthought.
That was clear on our recent stay.
A Classic That Keeps Getting Better
The Hamilton Princess opened in 1885, and that history could easily become the dominant feature of the hotel.
Instead, the Princess has continually invested in staying relevant.
The latest chapter is the transformation of the Bermudiana Wing, part of a long-running program of improvements that has kept the hotel current without losing the identity that made it famous.
That combination is important.
The hotel still has the architecture, history and presence that earned it the longstanding “Pink Palace” nickname, but it does not rely on nostalgia.
The rooms feel current. The public spaces feel lively. The food has ambition.
And the staff gives the entire place its personality.
Why This Kind of Hotel Feels So Good Right Now
There has been an enormous amount of new hotel development across the Caribbean and Atlantic islands.
Newness gets attention, but there is something equally compelling about hotels with history, identity and a deep connection to their destination.
The Hamilton Princess fits squarely into that category.
It is not trying to recreate Bermuda inside a resort compound. It is part of Bermuda’s history.
That makes the stay feel different.
It Is Remarkably Easy to Reach
Bermuda has always had one of the great geographical advantages in island travel: it is far closer to the northeastern United States than many first-time visitors realize.
That creates the possibility of a genuinely easy long-weekend trip.
You can leave the East Coast in the morning and be overlooking Hamilton Harbour later that day.
The hotel also makes an excellent base for exploring the rest of Bermuda.
Visitors cannot rent conventional cars on the island, but taxis, ferries, buses, scooters and small electric vehicles make getting around straightforward.
And There Is a Beach Club
The name Hamilton Princess & Beach Club is important.
The hotel itself is on Hamilton Harbour, but its private Princess Beach Club sits on Bermuda’s South Shore at Sinky Bay.
That gives you an unusually versatile Bermuda stay.
You can have the harbor, the restaurants and the energy of Hamilton one day, then head to a private cove and spend the next one by the beach.
There are tennis and pickleball courts there, along with beach facilities and watersports.
It makes the Princess feel less like a city hotel and more like two complementary Bermuda experiences connected by one stay.
Who Should Stay Here
If your Bermuda vacation is primarily about being on a remote beach all day, there are other hotels on the island that put you directly on the sand.
The Hamilton Princess is best if you want more dimensions to your trip.
Stay here if you want excellent restaurants within the hotel and more just outside the door.
Stay here if you like being able to walk into Hamilton, catch a ferry, explore the island and then come back to a harborfront pool.
Couples will appreciate the restaurants, art and service.
Families get the pools, Beach Club and easy access to the island.
And anyone who loves classic hotels will understand the appeal almost immediately.
The Essence of Bermuda
There was a point during our recent stay when it became clear why we liked the Hamilton Princess so much.
It wasn’t one dramatic feature.
It was the accumulation of everything: the person who remembered something you asked for, the meal at 1609 with Hamilton Harbour in front of you, the salmon that stayed in your mind afterward, the view across the water, the artwork in the corridors, the ease of walking into Hamilton and the sense that this hotel has been part of Bermuda for generations.
Those are the thoughtful touches that separate a very good hotel from one you want to return to.
The Hamilton Princess has been here since 1885.
After our latest stay, it feels as relevant as ever.
More importantly, it feels like Bermuda.
What It Costs
The Hamilton Princess is firmly in Bermuda’s luxury tier, and the price reflects it.
A rate check for a Sept. 7 stay found rooms from about $739 for one night for two adults, including taxes and fees. Pricing varies significantly by date and room category, but the hotel is also running an Endless Summer offer with savings of up to 20 percent on qualifying stays through Sept. 15, while a separate Suite Life offer includes 30 percent off suites and daily breakfast for stays through March.
It is not a cheap Bermuda stay, but after our recent visit, the value made sense to us. You are paying for the harborfront setting, the location in Hamilton, access to the Beach Club, excellent dining and, most of all, the level of service that made the hotel stand out throughout our stay.
