GW Hospital Chief Financial Officer Maia Healy exited her post in June after two years in the role to focus on “non career goals,” according to a LinkedIn post this month. Healy joined GW Hospital as CFO in January 2024 after serving in the same position since 2018 at Henderson Hospital in Nevada, which is also owned and operated by Universal Health Services — the healthcare operator that owns GW Hospital — according to her LinkedIn profile. Healy’s departure leaves a second senior leadership role vacant as the hospital also looks for a new chief operating officer following Kimberlee Daniels’ promotion to CEO of Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center after serving as COO at GW Hospital since 2023. “It is with mixed emotions that my time at UHS has come to an end,” Healy said in the post. “I have spent the last 8 years working with this great company.” Healy’s exit follows a period of turnover that included former CEO Kimberly Russo’s departure in April 2025 after nine years leading the hospital. The hospital appointed Jason Barrett at the new CEO in July 2025. GW Hospital’s career website now lists both the COO and CFO positions as open. GW Hospital and Healy did not immediately return a request for comment on the reason for her departure and the hospital’s plans to fill the vacancy. UHS nor GW Hospital has announced who will succeed Healy or whether it has appointed an interim chief financial officer. During Healy’s tenure, GW Hospital and UHS finalized a long-negotiated agreement with the University and the Medical Faculty Associates to transfer physician practice operations to a new UHS-affiliated nonprofit physician group. Under the agreement, UHS will gradually assume financial responsibility for clinical practice operations, ending years of University loans to the physician practice. The agreement represented a major restructuring of GW’s academic medical enterprise, shifting oversight of physician practice operations to UHS while creating Capital Medical Group to employ most MFA physicians and staff. The transition is intended to provide long-term financial stability for GW Hospital and affiliated clinical operations after years of operating losses at the MFA, according to a joint announcement from GW, the MFA and UHS. Healy also served as CFO during ongoing labor disputes between hospital leadership and nurses represented by the D.C. Nurses Association. In May, a faction of unionized nurses petitioned the National Labor Relations Board to end the bargaining unit’s affiliation with the D.C. Nurses Association while maintaining union representation, arguing the organization had failed to effectively represent workers during contract negotiations. DCNA has filed at least nine unfair labor practice charges against UHS in recent years, alleging the company fired a nurse for participating in union activity and installed surveillance cameras in break and meeting rooms after nurses announced plans to unionize. Shortly after the start of Healy’s tenure as CFO, GW Hospital laid off 60 workers — approximately 3 percent of its staff — as hospitals nationally continued to struggle from financial pressures brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
