TexStyles Ghana Limited (TSG), the textile manufacturer of the GTP and Woodin brands, is set to enter a new phase under Ghanaian ownership following the acquisition of the company by Olive Africa Partners Fashions Limited.
The acquisition, which is expected to take effect in the coming weeks, involves the purchase of the total shareholding of Vlisco BV in TexStyles Ghana Limited, together with the Woodin brand, by Olive Africa Partners Fashions Limited, a wholly Ghanaian-owned investment company.
The investment company is represented by its co-founding partners, Mr Kofi Kwakwa and Mr John Gadzi, whose leadership and expertise are expected to guide the company’s next phase of growth and development.
In a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency, the new owners said the transaction also included the transfer of trademarks associated with the GTP and Woodin brands, which have been part of Ghana’s textile and fashion heritage for decades.
Known for their distinctive designs, creative patterns and strong Ghanaian identity, GTP and Woodin fabrics have earned enduring popularity among consumers, with their colours, motifs and contemporary interpretations of African aesthetics making them recognisable brands in Ghana and beyond.
Their appeal has extended across generations and into different aspects of fashion and cultural expression, contributing to their authenticity and enduring place in the region’s textile landscape.
The statement said TexStyles Ghana Limited would continue to operate in Ghana under its current management structure to ensure continuity in its operations and relationships with employees, distributors, retailers and customers.
The statement described the acquisition as a strategic investment in Ghana’s textile sector and an indication of the new owners’ confidence in the industry and its long-term growth prospects.
It noted that TSG had played a central role in Ghana’s textile industry for decades, producing fabrics that had become popular in Ghana and across the West African region.
The company would maintain its operations in Ghana and continue serving its customers through its existing distribution network across West Africa, the statement said.
Mr Kwakwa, Chairman of Olive Africa Partners Fashions Limited, said the acquisition had a personal significance for him, recalling his childhood experience of watching his mother trade in GTP fabrics to support the family.
“My connection to this business goes back many years as a Ghanaian child who watched his mother trade in GTP fabric to support her family,” he said.
He said he and Mr Gadzi considered it an honour to take over the company and its iconic brands and were committed to building on their legacy.
Mr Perry Oosting, Chief Executive Officer of Vlisco Group, acknowledged the strong connection between TexStyles and Ghanaian and West African cultural and textile heritage.
He said Vlisco Group was proud to have owned and developed the business over the years and expressed confidence in its continued growth under dedicated Ghanaian ownership.
Mr Oosting said the new investor, together with the existing management, understood the textile industry and its potential, adding that Vlisco Group would continue to support the company as a partner.
Mr Kodwo Agyenim-Boateng, Managing Director of TSG, expressed appreciation to the brands’ stakeholders for their support over the years and welcomed the new shareholders.
He said the company was looking forward to working with the new owners to take the business forward.
