Совет директоров Грейт-Ник-Плейза одобрил благотворительную прогулку хора Shireimu и выдал комментарии по экологической экспертизе нового проекта

The board of trustees approved a charity walk for the Shireimu Choir of Long Island and approved comments on the environmental review of a proposed mixed-use development at 15 Barstow Road. The actions came during the Great Neck Plaza Village Board’s Wednesday, Sept. 2 meeting, where trustees also postponed consideration of a proposed commercial landscaper permit law and a contract for the village court’s computer system. The Shireimu Choir, which is entering its 10th season, asked the board for permission to hold a fundraising walk through the village on Sunday, Oct. 4. A representative said the nonprofit wanted to try a new way to raise money while introducing the choir to the Great Neck community. The choir celebrates Jewish culture through music and seeks to present it to diverse audiences, the representative said. The audition choir is multiracial and open to people of different backgrounds. The board approved the permit in a 3-0 vote. The walk is expected to follow a route similar to the annual Student Aid Association walk, with police coverage to be requested and a certificate of insurance required. Organizers said participants could also shorten the relatively short route. The board postponed consideration of a proposed local law requiring commercial landscapers operating in the village to obtain permits. The matter was moved to the Sept. 16 meeting because two trustees were absent. The board also approved a VHB Engineering comment letter concerning the completeness of a July draft environmental impact statement (DEIS) for the proposed mixed-use development at 26 Linden Place and 15 Barstow Road. A DEIS is a detailed environmental review that examines a proposed project’s potential impacts. Village Attorney Richard Gabriele said the applicant submitted the DEIS in July after the village issued a positive declaration under the State Environmental Quality Review Act. VHB reviewed the document and identified items it believes still need to be addressed before the DEIS can be deemed complete. The board authorized Gabriele to send the comments to the applicant’s attorney, subject to any additional comments from trustees. Gabriele said the village needed to send its response by Friday to meet a 45-day deadline. Separately, trustees approved a request from the Gold Coast Art Center to hang a banner over Middle Neck Road promoting its film and art festival, scheduled for Oct. 7 through Oct. 29, and waived the banner fee. Mayor Ted Rosen also noted that the village will hold a brief memorial ceremony on Sept. 11 to honor Great Neck residents who died in the terrorist attacks. The ceremony will take place at 8:45 a.m. on Grace Avenue, just east of Citibank, and will include remarks by village officials and a reading of the names of Great Neck residents who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks.
