Донкастер Роверс рассчитывают на рост потенциала защитника Шона Грэhana в сезоне 2026/27

Doncaster Rovers are determined to push up the League One table in the 2026/27 season, and it could bring the emergence of Sean Grehan. Doncaster Rovers need a strong defensive unit if they are to have a successful League One campaign. To do so, they should look to make use of Republic of Ireland youth international Sean Grehan. Grehan signed for DRFC from Premier League side Crystal Palace in the summer of 2025. After an impressive loan spell in Ireland’s top flight with Bohemians, Grant McCann acted swiftly to add Grehan to his defensive ranks. At just 22, Grehan has plenty of potential, and he could key to long-term defensive solidity. Why Sean Grehan suits Grant McCann’s Doncaster Rovers system perfectly Grehan, although a young professional, is expansive and confident. He likes to play with the ball at his feet and certainly fits the bill as a modern ball-playing centre back. Doncaster Rovers supporters have called for this position to be strengthened. Many feel the squad has too many ‘old-school’ defenders, such as Neill Byrne and Matty Pearson. Both adopt a no-nonsense approach and their priority is to clear the ball from danger at all costs, perhaps limiting the side’s composure in defence. However, that style does not suit McCann’s preferred approach. The boss wants his teams to play out from the back, meaning his defenders need to stay composed and help start attacks. Grehan fits this perfectly. For a team that wants to build from the back, the Irishman’s quality, confidence and composure with the ball at his feet could see him emerge as a key player for Rovers. If Doncaster Rovers want to battle it out at the right end of a very competitive League One this season, trusting young and confident defenders such as Grehan is the way they can surprise those teams who perhaps have stronger squads on paper. Sean Grehan’s standout League One stats – 2025/26 Could Grehan be Doncaster Rovers’ next high value player? Currently, Doncaster Rovers probably have one of the strongest squads going into a league campaign that they’ve had for a few seasons. This current squad has includes players of significant value. Owen Bailey has not been short of interest this summer, but the club have acted impressively to tie him down to a new three-year deal. Last summer, DRFC turned down a big offer for defender Jay McGrath. Furthermore, Rovers have cashed in on a high value player this summer, selling Luke Molyneux, who declined to sign a new contract and has instead joined Salford City on a multi-year deal. This plethora of valuable players Rovers now have can grow with Grehan. Although a bit-part player last term, if he cements his place in McCann’s starting XI, his stock will continue to grow and he could go on to become another valuable player for Doncaster Rovers.
