Школа Westridge в Гранд-Айленде запустила кампанию «Мы важнее меня» для создания культуры поддержки

Grand Island’s Westridge Middle School promotes 'We Over Me' message for new year Grand Island, Neb — Students returning to class at Westridge Middle School in Grand Island were greeted with a schoolwide message aimed at building a supportive culture: “We over me.” The motto is posted throughout classrooms and is meant to remind students they are part of something bigger than themselves, Principal Kayla Wichman said. She said the school is emphasizing teamwork and an anti-bullying focus as the year begins. “One of the things were really focusing on in a lot of levels is working as a team, so working together in the classroom and that antibullying piece. How can we stand up for each other so that everyone feels comfortable and safe here at Westridge,” Wichman said. Wichman said the first day of school is a chance for students and staff to reset and refresh. Eighth-grade teacher Kiersten Anderson said she knows the start of the school year can be difficult for some students, so she tries to bring energy and help students feel like they belong. “I know the motto this year is about belonging and everything and we at GIPS has this sort of feeling about them that we can create a place where everyone no matter where you come from and who you are can be accepted and know their place and I’m just really proud to be apart of a community like that,” Anderson said. Students also heard from former Husker player and Teammates CEO Demoine Adams, who made a surprise appearance during first-day activities. Adams called the first day of school “game day,” encouraging students to bring their best effort throughout the year and reminding them the school is a team. “Any day where you can be your best is game day. Any time you have an opportunity to bring your a game and to do something to get you pumped up for a whole year and that’s winning, that’s game day,” Adams said.
