Gorilla Glue responds to viral retirement campaign for Ardmore store’s mascot ARDMORE, Ala. (WAFF) - “Joe the Gorilla,” the beloved mascot of King’s Hardware in Ardmore, is officially entering retirement after a viral community-led campaign caught the attention of the actual Gorilla Glue company. Joe, a life-sized cardboard cutout of the famous Gorilla Glue mascot, has stood watch at the local store for 20 years without taking a single day off. Believing Joe had earned some rest, the store requested a replacement cutout from Gorilla Glue and sent Joe on a community-wide farewell tour. Ardmore businesses rallied around the campaign, offering Joe perks like a pre-approved auto loan, a car inspection, a custom “banana pudding latte” from a local coffee shop, and a retirement venue. The fun campaign successfully caught the attention of Gorilla Glue. The company announced it is officially sending a brand-new mascot cutout to King’s Hardware, allowing Joe to finally step down and enjoy his retirement.
