В организации APC объявили о смерти Берtrand де Ла Шапель, видного деятеля в сфере управления интернетом

At APC, we want to express our deep sorrow at the unexpected passing of Bertrand de La Chapelle on 26 August 2026. Bertrand was a reference in the global internet governance field, a passionate advocate for multistakeholder cooperation – and, above all, a longtime friend of APC. Throughout his trajectory – with his innovative, creative mind and his commitment to bringing about necessary change – he made contributions to a number of key processes, working side by side with many of us at APC. Before co-founding the non-governmental organisation Internet & Jurisdiction Policy Network, he had been a determined promoter and pioneering implementer of multistakeholder governance processes for more than 15 years, building upon his diverse experience as a career diplomat, civil society actor and tech entrepreneur. He was previously a director on the ICANN Board (2010-2013), France's Thematic Ambassador and Special Envoy for the Information Society (2006-2010) and an active participant in the World Summit on the Information Society (2002-2005), where he promoted dialogue among civil society, the private sector and governments. Bertrand also always believed in the value of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) and was truly committed to its evolution and strengthening year after year. His sharp way of framing ideas and proposals always stood out. He held a profound conviction that multistakeholder cooperation was essential for the democratic, accountable and effective governance of digital technologies. He was one of those people who genuinely believed in and lived the idea of multistakeholder cooperation. He recognised that these processes were not magic, and argued that they had to be curated, facilitated, evolved and designed to be effective, giving different voices more equal volume and influence. He was a true part of civil society and, even when he was not, he always continued to believe in the vital role that civil society plays. He was always open to other people's ideas, and he was always a source of creative ideas himself. His legacy inspires us today and always to continue thinking creatively and working in partnership. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Bertrand’s many friends and family members. His passing is an immeasurable loss to the entire internet community, but we know that his legacy will continue to resonate for many generations to come.
