Gilbane Building is the first mobile workforce in Nevada to achieve this distinction
RENO, NEV. (August 26, 2026) – The Safety Consultation and Training Section (SCATS) of the State of Nevada’s Division of Industrial Relations recognizes Gilbane Building in Reno, Nevada for successful recognition as a Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) participant. The program recognizes employers and workers who have implemented effective safety and health management systems and maintain injury and illness rates below national Bureau of Labor Statistics averages for their industry.
Gilbane Building’s Nevada Mobile Workforce received VPP status in April 2026. Working in partnership with SCATS, the organization was able to thoroughly evaluate existing safety programs while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement. This will ensure Gilbane employees are involved in workplace safety efforts while supporting the company’s business efforts throughout Nevada.
“Achieving Nevada VPP Star recognition is a testament to the dedication of our employees, trade partners, and clients who make safety a core value every day,” said Rich Arndt, Nevada business leader for Gilbane Building. “This recognition reflects our commitment to creating and maintaining safe, healthy workplaces through proactive planning, continuous training and a culture where every team member is empowered to speak up and take ownership of safety. We are honored to receive this distinction and appreciate the partnership and guidance provided by SCATS throughout the process.”
Gilbane is part of an elite group of businesses that have achieved VPP status, recognizing their commitment to occupational safety and health excellence. Participation in the program provides incentives and support to employers to develop, implement and continuously improve programs at their worksite(s). By taking these proactive measures, businesses can reduce accident costs and ensure compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) health and safety standards.
“Gilbane’s participation in VPP demonstrates their commitment to ensuring their Nevada Mobile Workforce maintains a healthy and safe workplace for their team members,” said Todd Schultz, chief administrative officer for SCATS. “Throughout the VPP process, Gilbane demonstrated effective safety management systems, employee engagement and training programs. We’re proud to partner with them to support their safety goals.”
SCATS consultants provide employers with confidential hazard identification, program development, implementation assistance and training.
