В Гане спасли девушку-стоматолога, которую обманом завезли в Нигерию вместо работы в Бельгии

Ampem, whose name was changed for the report, had been weeks away from completing her national service as a dental surgery assistant when she was offered the opportunity to travel abroad. A 26-year-old Ghanaian dental surgery assistant, identified by the media as Doris Ampem, has been rescued after she was allegedly lured to Nigeria with a fake promise of employment in Belgium. According to a broadcast by GHOne News, monitored by SaharaReporters, the alleged trafficking operation began in Ghana and involved a woman whom Ampem described as her aunt and mentor, Abigail Boateng, who allegedly presented her with an opportunity to work in Belgium. Ampem, whose name was changed for the report, had been weeks away from completing her national service as a dental surgery assistant when she was offered the opportunity to travel abroad. She had reportedly met Boateng at church and regarded her as a mentor who had helped shape her career. Ampem said Boateng encouraged her to study dental nursing, after which she enrolled at Kintampo College of Health and completed her training. According to the report, Boateng later told Ampem that there was an opportunity for nurses to travel to Belgium. “I received an invite from Miss Abigail Boateng from Nestor Global Limited, which is in Belgium. So she's inviting me to join her there,” Ampem said. She was allegedly told that she would need about $3,000, equivalent to approximately GH¢33,000, to facilitate the process. Ampem said her family struggled to raise the money, prompting Boateng to allegedly offer financial assistance. “She's willing to help me,” Ampem said. Her mother eventually borrowed GH¢10,000 from a friend, which was paid as part of the required funds. Ampem subsequently obtained a passport and submitted her CV and other documents. She was later allegedly asked to provide another GH¢4,000 for an air ticket. According to the report, she was told that her journey to Belgium would take her through Lagos and Cameroon before she eventually reached her destination. “My auntie here, she told me she's at Belgium. I asked if I'm coming to her. She told me I'm coming to her,” Ampem said. She was just weeks away from completing her national service as a dental surgery assistant. Then came what appeared to be the opportunity of a lifetime, a chance to leave Ghana for Belgium and start a new life. She also became more concerned after allegedly being instructed not to disclose the journey to anyone, including her church pastor. Ampem eventually informed her mother, and they sought assistance from Black Angels BI, an organisation involved in the investigation. On the day she was scheduled to travel, GHOne News reporter Peter Kwao Adattor accompanied Ampem from the Accra International Airport on a flight to Lagos as part of the investigation. The trip, which Ampem believed would be the beginning of her journey to Europe, instead ended at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. A man identified as Emmanuel Owusu reportedly arrived at the airport to receive her. However, investigators confronted and arrested him. According to the report, Owusu, a Ghanaian, was allegedly linked to the arrangements that brought Ampem to Nigeria. The intervention prevented the young woman from proceeding further into what investigators suspected was a human trafficking network. Ampem said she had wanted someone to accompany her because she was uncertain about what awaited her in Nigeria. “I needed to get someone with me to come here because if we're not part, I don't know how to be,” she said. The investigation subsequently led to the arrest of Boateng, the woman Ampem had identified as the person who introduced her to the supposed opportunity. With assistance from the Ghanaian Embassy in Lagos, Boateng was also apprehended. The two suspects, Owusu and Boateng, were later taken back to Ghana and handed over to the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Ghana Police Service's Criminal Investigations Department for further investigation. For Ampem and her family, what appeared to be an opportunity to secure a better future in Europe allegedly turned into a suspected trafficking operation.
