Future commitments define Cantina Rauscedo’s 75th anniversary
For its milestone anniversary, Italian cooperative Cantina Rauscedo is mixing celebrations with long-term investment, including in its first-ever sustainability report.
To mark a 75th anniversary, you would expect a party, and Cantina Rauscedo certainly provided that. An event, hosted on 1 August, saw 550 people gather for the official start of celebrations. Cantina Rauscedo threw open its doors to members, employees, institutional representatives and guests.
Simon Staffler from Falstaff Italia served as compère, welcoming guests and introducing a video made especially for the occasion. This new piece guided guests through Cantina Rauscedo’s history, from the coalition of families joining forces in 1951 to its most recent wines and accolades.
Furthermore, throughout the evening there were messages from various dignitaries. Francesco Lollobrigida, Italy’s Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, and Massimiliano Fedriga, President of the Autonomous Region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia both sent their congratulations, as did MEPs, councillors and the local mayor.
“Our 75th anniversary is a moment of reflection and awareness,” said Flavio Geretto, who became Cantina Rauscedo’s general manager earlier this year. “We are proud of the journey that has brought us this far, but even more determined to build what we will become tomorrow. This confidence is rooted in a heritage that, over the past few months, I have come to know and appreciate even more deeply.”
During his address, he revealed two magnums to mark the occasion, each with a label specifically designed for the 75th anniversary. The two varieties chosen – Refosco and Sauvignon Blanc – are both strongly associated with the cooperative and the region.
At the celebration, the Cantina Rauscedo team also unveiled a new artwork to celebrate its 75 years. Artist Giorgio Celiberti watched on as the cooperative’s leadership revealed his creation, a work of cast aluminium that will sit in the headquarters for decades to come.
Laying the foundations
Between the toasts and the commemorations, however, there were opportunities to look to the future. Cantina Rauscedo is using its 75th anniversary to lay the groundwork for the next 75 years and beyond.
“The renewal process we have embarked on is built around one fundamental principle: quality,” said commented Antonio Zuliani, the cooperative’s president. “Only through continuous improvement can we consolidate the trust of our existing customers and win over new ones.”
As clear evidence of this, he released the cooperative’s inaugural sustainability report. The document is the result of meticulous work, aided by the Global Reporting Initiative and the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan, to assess and improve Cantina Rauscedo’s environmental impact.
Already, it has identified six of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals to focus on. Even in the first year of reporting, Cantina Rauscedo demonstrated tangible action to protect the planet. For instance, 53% of the cooperative’s energy came from clean sources (thanks in part to its own photovoltaic panels) and it reduced water consumption in its washing operations by 22%.
The sustainability drive dovetails with investment in the winery, Geretto explained: “The renovation of our headquarters is the first tangible sign of a broader project to enhance the image of the winery and the values of our community, because we believe that every major transformation must begin with its roots. We want to strengthen Cantina Rauscedo as a recognisable brand, one that can be shared and communicated internationally and showcase the value of Friuli and its wine heritage to the world.”
On its 75th anniversary, Cantina Rauscedo is therefore taking a firmly forward-facing stance. On 7 October, it will continue this commitment by hosting a conference to discuss the future of the wine industry.
Next year, meanwhile, will see Pordenone named Italian Capital of Culture. That affords Cantina Rauscedo a clear opportunity to promote winemaking as integral to Italian culture.
2026 may mark Cantina Raucedo’s 75th anniversary, but its outlook is already turning to future prosperity, even as it celebrates past successes.
