Мюзикл «Beach to the Future» получил пять звезд на фестивале Fringe за безумный юмор и динамичное шоу

Fringe Review: Beach to the Future is pure Fringe fun Beach to the Future: The Accidental Beach End Game 5 stars out of 5 Stage 18, The Luther Centre, 10014 81 Ave. The beach is back. Not the actual beach, mind you, but the comedy musical about the beach that has now disappeared. Don’t think too hard about the beach and its existence or non-existence; just laugh at the mile-a-minute jokes, the ridiculous choreography and the songs that will stick in your head with Beach to the Future. Drug dealers and trash dumping have turned the North Saskatchewan River into a cesspool of disease and toxic waste. Its waters mutated children into hideous half-lizard, half-people who just want to understand their past. Or their future? Look, this whole time travelling thing always gets confusing, and then suddenly there are alternate timelines and … ugh. Thankfully Beach to the Future never takes itself too seriously, as you might expect from a musical comedy. These jokes launch off the short pier into the Fringe audience and land with a solid guffaw, keeping the crowd howling. “Oh no, it’s the Bonny Doon boys,” comes out of left field to absolutely howling applause. Step-grandpa Rogers-Place (Malachi Wilkins) has by far the greatest one-liners of the show, a gruff Doc Brown equivalent who isn’t afraid to express himself through the medium of the curse word. What is more impressive is how Beach to the Future has managed to fit four actors and three musicians onto the tiny stage at the Luther Centre. Everyone fits and they even have room for a few props and some incredible dance numbers. I was also concerned missing last year’s entry in the Accidental Beach franchise would somehow put me behind, lacking important plot points and floundering when it came to the story thus far. But fret not, this isn’t about exposition but the ridiculous comedy the group from Grindstone Theatre always brings to the table. You will laugh, you might cry, but definitely don’t miss Beach to the Future.
