Fort Wayne-based Franklin Electric Co. Inc. is adding to its portfolio with the acquisition of Minneapolis-based Cat Pumps Corp., a manufacturer of high-pressure plunger and piston pumps for commercial and industrial applications.
The company said Tuesday the acquisition, which closed on Sept. 4, is valued at $350 million in cash with a potential addition of up to $50 million in Franklin Electric stock based on future performance.
Franklin Electric manufactures systems and components, including motors and pumps, designed for the movement of water and energy for residential, commercial, agricultural, industrial, municipal, and fueling applications.
The company said the addition of Cat Pumps strengthens its position in high-growth commercial and industrial end markets, including energy, hydro excavation, industrial cleaning, and reverse osmosis and water treatment.
“Cat Pumps brings a premium brand with exceptional customer loyalty, proprietary technology, and deep expertise in demanding commercial and industrial applications,” CEO Joe Ruzynski said in a news release. “Combined with Franklin’s commercial capabilities, global footprint, and systems expertise, we see meaningful opportunities to expand the business and better serve customers across our combined markets.”
Cat Pumps employs about 120 people across its global footprint. Franklin Electric spokesperson Dean Cantrell told Inside INdiana Business that Cat Pumps will continue to go to market under its existing brand name.
Franklin Electric is the 21st-largest public company in Indiana with $2.1 billion in revenue in 2025, according to IBJ research. The company has approximately 6,500 employees.
The acquisition of Cat Pumps comes about four months after Franklin Electric announced the acquisition of Wood Bros., a distributor of water treatment systems headquartered in Lincoln, Nebraska.
