Бывшие сотрудники завода Navistar приглашены на ежегодную встречу 10 сентября

Former Navistar employee reunion being held Sept. 10 Article content Former Navistar truck assembly plant employees are invited to the annual reunion banquet being held Sept. 10 at the Moose Lodge in Chatham. Formerly held for retirees, organizer Cy Addley said the event is open to anyone who worked at the plant, which closed in 2009. Recommended Videos He said the reunion is a great time to catch up with people with whom they’ve worked for much of their life and enjoy a good meal and a few drinks together. Other than a five-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the reunion, begun in 1910 when Navistar operated the former Wagon Works plant on Grand Avenue East in Chatham, has been an annual tradition. Addley said the goal is to keep the reunion going as long as possible. He added tickets, which cost $30, need to be purchased by Aug. 30. Doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling Addley at 519-354-0413 or by picking them up at his home at 9 Duskridge Rd. in Chatham. Volunteers sought to serve on Together CK review committee The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is seeking residents interested in serving on the Together CK review committee. Established by municipal council in 2000, the Together CK grant program supports community projects and events that enhance quality of life across Chatham-Kent, said a media release. Since its inception, the program has invested more than $15 million in community development projects and events, the release added. Committee members work alongside municipal staff to review grant applications, evaluate projects based on established criteria, and make funding recommendations to council. “Volunteers play an important role in ensuring funding is allocated fairly and supports initiatives that deliver meaningful community benefits,” municipal officials said. Residents 18 and older can apply by Sept. 18, the release said. Successful applicants will be appointed for the current term of council and should expect to commit approximately 30 hours each fall to review applications and attend committee meeting. Applications will be evaluated based on relevant experience, including volunteer involvement, committee participation, and other skills that would support the committee’s work. The application and details about the program are available at www.chatham-kent.ca/apply/funding/Pages/Together-CK-Municipal-Grant.aspx. Library holding networking session for local writers Writing can be an isolating passion, but the Chatham-Kent Public Library is offering a networking session to combat that. Local writers are invited to the Chatham branch Community Living Café on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 3:30 pm to network. “This is a great opportunity for all types of writers in all stages of their careers to come and meet to share tips and tricks of the writing industry,” said a library media release. “Come and provide support to those experiencing writer’s block or maybe having a hard time breaking into the publishing world,” the release said. “This is a chance to network with like-minded individuals with experience, find a match for mentorship, or share advice and anecdotes.” No registration is required and the release said the experience is best suited for people 18 and older. “The library will provide the space; the participants will provide conversation, support and experience.” Light refreshments will be provided.
