SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa — Six months following the publication of his first book “Hudsonville: What Lies Beneath, ” Stewart Chisham, a native of Tracy, has published his second book of a fantasy fiction trilogy through Culicidae Press. “Hudsonville: Rise Again!” dives into the perspective of the trilogy’s main antagonist, Drew. “He starts out as an ally to the kids in the first book, but after coming in possession of this powerful artifact, he becomes corrupted by it, the entity inside of it, and starts to go on this wild mission,” Chisham explained. “The second book ... follows his mission to resurrect the entity inside this artifact. It’s kind of an ironic title because it’s his downfall as he tried to get this god to rise again.” ADVERTISEMENT The main protagonist from the first book, Andy, and his friends are still in the story, but become almost a side ensemble cast. Chisham said the third book comes back to Andy’s story as they attempt to stop what’s happening. He hopes to have the third book published by the end of the year. Chisham begins his stories with a simple idea and starts to develop his characters first, “because my characters are the most important thing to my stories,” he said. “You can’t have a plot without great characters to drive it forward.” From there, he sees how the characters work together and creates a rough outline before tackling individual chapters. “And then eventually we actually write the story,” he said. Chisham is also working on an animated trailer — an animatic — for the entire trilogy. “It’s not quite full animation, it’s more like storyboards,” he explained. “It’s like the in-between between storyboards and final animation.” He is hiring for different positions including an animatic lead and background artist, with details published on castingcall.club . He hopes to have the trailer completed by winter. “That’s going to be a really fun process,” Chisham said. ADVERTISEMENT Since the publication of his second book, Chisham had an event at Goose Feather Books in Spirit Lake, Iowa, during which he sold out of all of the copies of his first book and had just a few copies remaining of his second book. His books are available at that bookstore, the Nobles County Library, Amazon and more. “If this is something that I want to keep doing as like a little hobby on the side of my regular work, then I think I absolutely can maintain doing this because it’s just something I’m passionate about and it’s something that clearly people enjoy and that means a lot to me," Chisham said. "I want to keep on providing that entertainment for people for as long as I can. “Thank you to everybody that’s been supportive of the project so far," he added. “Obviously this is my first foray into this sort of thing and having it be published almost right away, it was mind-boggling, it was insane to me and the fact that people enjoy it and the fact that people are supportive of it, it just means the world to me.
