Family remembers murder victim on what would have been his 42nd birthday CINCINNATI (WXIX) - Family and friends gathered at Wade Street Park Monday night to celebrate what would have been Troy Smith’s 42nd birthday, nearly 10 years after his unsolved murder. Blue balloons filled the park as relatives marked the occasion with a balloon release. Troy Smith was found shot in January 2017, slumped over the wheel of his car on Chestnut Street. His murder remains unsolved. Family remembers Troy Smith Theresa Smith, Troy’s mother, described her son as a devoted father. “A happy, fun father... a family guy. He have three daughters and he loved sports... loved, enjoyed fun, biking, fishing, you name it,” Theresa Smith said. Sharvee Smith, Troy’s cousin, said he enjoyed holidays. “He loved fire crackers, 4th of July, everything,” Sharvee Smith said. Family continues to seek justice Theresa Smith said the years since her son’s murder have been difficult. “I go through a lot… every day is a struggle for me. Today is a hard day, but a happy day at the same time... and we need justice for my son,” Theresa Smith said. Sharvee Smith said Monday marked the first time the family gathered in this way. “Troy is a family and a friendly person so we felt like we would bring the others among to do a balloon release with us. He would have wanted that,” Sharvee Smith said. The family is asking anyone with information to call Cincinnati police or Crime Stoppers. See a spelling or grammatical error in our story?
