Family remembers Alabama A&M student killed at Huntsville gas station HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - The family of Ta’Lyjah Vontrelle Moore, 26, is sharing memories of the Alabama A&M University senior killed in a shooting at a gas station on Jordan Lane near Mastin Lake Road in the early morning hours of Aug. 2. Two men, Daquavion Malone, 21, and Terryon Gatewood, 20, have been charged with reckless murder in Moore’s death. Police say shots were fired after a fight broke out and that Moore was not the intended target. A second man shot that night was in critical condition. Investigators say additional arrests and charges are possible. Moore was studying computer science at Alabama A&M and was preparing to finish his senior year before moving to Texas to pursue his career. He also coached children at the Boys & Girls Club, where kids called him Coach T. His mother described their daily bond. “When he always come home and hug me and say, ‘Mom, don’t be worried about me. I’m doing good. I’m okay.’ ... And just, he just called me every day. It wasn’t a day that we didn’t talk,” his mother, Telisha Moore said. His sister Makhia Streeter said Ta’Lyjahwas determined to succeed. “He was very ambitious. Very goal-driven. Very smart. Very intelligent... he really beat the odds when he lived from our hometown, because most people are not known for that. They don’t go off and go to college and try to be something better than what we have here. So, that’s what made him different,” Streeter said. His mother said Ta’Lyjah was devoted to the children he coached. “He loved those kids. ... They would call him Coach T. Coach T. ... And he was just so happy about it. Because he loved children. ... Helping them. You know, inspiring them. He’s always been a leader,” Moore said. Ta’Lyjah’s mother said the last time she saw him in person was about three weeks before his death. “I hugged him for the last time. It was about three weeks ago. I always miss his hugs. He always loved his mama,” his mother said. His youngest sister, Raymiya Moore, said she wants him to know she loves him. “I told him I love him before we got off the phone. ... But I know he loved me back, though,” Raymiya said. Huntsville police are asking anyone with information, photos or video connected to the shooting to come forward. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Huntsville Area Crime Stoppers. Ta’Lyjah’s family will lay him to rest Saturday.
