Its sharp design, low roofline and twin-turbo V6 engine were highlighted at the Detroit reveal, but questions remained about where the car would actually be built. Reports had circulated suggesting the Q60 might join the production roster at the new Mexican plant, which Infiniti and Daimler developed as part of a joint venture. However, a company spokesperson dismissed these claims, pointing to the plant’s focus on premium compact cars rather than larger coupes like the Q60. The Q60’s production site has not been officially named, but the Mexico option is now off the table. Focus of Mexican production Infiniti’s Mexican facility, shared with Daimler, was established to produce smaller, front-wheel-drive models. The company has previously stated that the plant’s output will centre on compact vehicles, which aligns with the Q30 and QX30 crossovers rather than the Q60 coupe. This focus is intended to support global demand for premium compacts, a segment where Infiniti is seeking growth. With the Q60’s assembly location unconfirmed, speculation has shifted to Infiniti’s existing facilities in Japan. The company has a history of building its larger, rear-wheel-drive models there, and the Q60’s platform and market positioning make it a likely candidate for Japanese production.
