Nicole Burton, who grew up in Brandon, founder of ALI9NED, leans on experiences of hormonal acne with launch of HI SKIN
An entrepreneur who suffered with hormonal acne has launched her first product to tackle the ailment after finding the existing market lacking.
Nicole Burton, 29, who grew up in Brandon, officially launched her firm ALI9NED on May 14 with its first offering, HI SKIN.
Nicole, who will marry fiancé and high school sweetheart Joe in Scotland in August, wanted to feel confident walking down the aisle, but found herself consumed by problems with her skin.
Unable to find a supplement that contained the ingredients she was looking for in one formula, Nicole decided to tackle the issue head on herself.
“I'd spent years taking clear skin for granted, and then suddenly I was dealing with hormonal acne,” said Nicole.
“I was trying every skincare product, changing my routine constantly and spending hundreds of pounds searching for a solution. It became exhausting.”
HI SKIN, which is bespoke and vegan, entered the market after months of research, with Nicole, who also runs social media agency Pixie Social, delving into the connection between hormones, gut health and skin.
She said each ingredient was carefully selected and ‘chosen for a reason’, resulting in a ‘unique blend’ featuring six botanical extracts, one adaptogenic mushroom, two essential minerals, one active vitamin and prebiotic fibre.
She said helping people overcome the same difficulties she faced herself was ‘incredibly rewarding’.
“Hormonal acne can affect so much more than your skin, it impacts your confidence, mental health and how you feel every single day” she said.
“I remember avoiding photos, cancelling plans and spending hundreds of pounds on products that promised everything but never gave me lasting results.
“If HI SKIN can help even one person feel more confident in their own skin, then all the hard work has been worth it.”
Nicole described the beauty industry as crowded, and said HI SKIN was not just ‘another skincare product’; she said it was designed to support hormonal balance from within instead of only focusing on what was happening on the surface.
“Being an independent Suffolk-founded business also means every decision is personal,” she said. “There's no huge corporate team behind the scenes.
“Everything from the branding to the formula has been created with real people in mind, and transparency is incredibly important to me.”
Nicole said fiancé Joe had supported her throughout the journey of building ALI9NED, which is based in Mildenhall, and they are both incredibly excited for the wedding.
She said starting a business while planning a wedding had been a balancing act, but in turn had made the year ‘even more special’.
“After so many months of hard work, it feels amazing to have both such an exciting business milestone and such a personal one to look forward to,” Nicole said.
“We're counting down the days and can't wait to celebrate with our family and friends.”
