Children walk away from drunk-driving crash 'miraculously' uninjured, despite car flipping APPLETON, Wis. (WKRC) - A pair of young children were "miraculously" uninjured following a drunk-driving crash, despite the car flipping off of the road and landing upside down in a flooded ditch. According to a release from the Appleton Police Department, officers responded to a single vehicle rollover crash during the weekend of August 22 and August 23, and found the vehicle "on its roof in shallow water in a ditch off the highway." "Two young children were in the backseat, secured in improperly installed car seats," the release read. "Miraculously, both children were uninjured." The children and the driver of the vehicle were hospitalized for observation, and police determined the driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash. The driver was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing injury - second offense (with a minor child in the vehicle), operating while revoked, failure to install ignition interlock device, possession of open intoxicants in a motor vehicle, and violation of child safety restraint. "The fact that no one was seriously injured or killed is a miracle," police wrote. "But it should not take a miracle to get everyone home safely."
