In addition to tonight's event, he will be making a guest appearance - for the first time ever - at the Reminisce Festival in St Helens on September 12. True to form, Tony held absolutely nothing back in our interview. The superstar DJ, who has spun records for a vast array of A-listers and royalty, has just published his long-awaited second book, Recover Me. It was four years ago that he released his Sunday Times bestselling debut, I Don’t Take Requests, a book he credits with completely changing his life. Writing it ultimately drove Tony to seek deep trauma therapy, unpicking decades of what he calls "learned behaviour." With this new book, he goes even further than before, speaking candidly about his sex addiction. Of all his struggles, he notes that this was his primary illness. And yes, make no mistake, it is an illness. Tony was abused between the ages of 10 and 14. Listening to him open up during the podcast was incredibly difficult; I felt a wave of sadness, hurt, and discomfort as he shared his story. Sex addiction is a deeply real problem. Becoming obsessive over sexual behaviours can cause life to spiral out of control, totally ruining a person's lifestyle while hijacking their career, finances, and personal relationships. In fact, Tony confessed to me that he nearly pulled the book after publication, waking up at 2am gripped by pure fear over what he had revealed to the world. Yet, I am delighted to say there is - at last - profound joy in Tony’s life today, which became beautifully clear when he spoke about his husband, Stavros: "I am not married to London anymore," he told me. "I am married to Stavros." For a man who admits he spent years merely wanting to be liked rather than loved, it is a remarkable turnaround. We also touched on his severe ADHD and dyslexia. In his complex life, he finds true comfort and peace only when he is DJing to thousands of fans. That is his ultimate happy place. He also shared his forthright views on the government’s proposed social media ban for under-16s. He reckons it will only make the platforms more inviting, drawing a parallel to the inherent nature of addiction itself.
