The Australian Idol heart-throb has joined the cast as Dr Tristan Roberts, a world-renowned heart surgeon whose arrival in the fictional town of Port Charles is set to shake things up. Geyer looked every inch the suave surgeon in a promotional image from the show, wearing a grey checked suit over a pale blue shirt as he smiled for the camera. While the handsome medic initially appears to be focused on his work, it soon becomes clear he has concealed connections to his past. His arrival also creates immediate tension with fellow doctor Britt Westbourne, played by Kelly Thiebaud. The role marks another significant milestone in Geyer's Hollywood career, almost two decades after he first became a household name in Australia. The singer later turned his attention to acting and landed the role of Ty Harper on Neighbours. He went on to find success in the US, appearing as Brody Weston in the hit musical comedy series Glee and starring in Steven Spielberg's science-fiction drama Terra Nova. His other screen credits include appearances in 9-1-1, Zoey 102 and Shades of Blue. Geyer's General Hospital character also carries special significance for longtime fans of the soap. The name Tristan Roberts is understood to be an on-screen tribute to late Australian actor Tristan Rogers, who became one of the program's most recognisable stars through his portrayal of Robert Scorpio. Rogers first joined General Hospital in 1980 and returned to the role several times during his lengthy association with the series. However, Australian viewers hoping to watch his debut through the soap's former free-to-air home may be disappointed. General Hospital first premiered in the US in 1963 and remains one of the world's longest-running scripted television dramas. Dean played Ty Harper on the iconic Aussie soap for 12 months, and in 2010, made his big screen debut in Never Back Down 2: The Beatdown. He received his big US break in 2012 when he was cast as Brody Weston in the iconic musical drama series Glee, in which he played Lea Michele's love interest. 'Lea is still one of my favourite co-stars that I have had the pleasure of working with. She is extremely hard-working and super fun to be around,' he said at the time. 'Her work ethic is so strong it forces you to always be on top of your game, and that's something I looked forward to every day on set. I definitely learned a lot.' Dean added: 'When jumping onto a hugely successful and established show like Glee, I went into it expecting to be known as the 'new guy' for at least a month, but that wasn't the case at all. Meanwhile, Dean tied the knot with Jillian in September 2017, after striking up their romance back in 2010. Dean was previously in a relationship with The Veronicas star Lisa Origliasso. The couple began dating in 2007 and announced their engagement a year later. The union proved to be short-lived, however, with the couple calling it quits just three months after Dean popped the question.
