New CEO for Nottinghamshire Deaf Society ahead of merger with BID Services
Two disability charities will join forces in November - with a new CEO already primed to take over.
Sinéad Cregan will lead BID Services, which is set to merge with Nottinghamshire Deaf Society on November 2.
She will assume the hotseat alongside outgoing head Gail Penberthy, who will step aside at the end of the year.
Matt Collingwood, chair of BID’s board of trustees, said: “Sinéad really impressed the interview panel with her strong background in business development and service transformation, her understanding of BID Services, and her genuine passion and enthusiasm for all of the different people and different communities we serve.
“Throughout her career, she has worked closely with many of the communities that BID supports, giving her a strong understanding of the barriers and challenges people can face, and the importance of bridging gaps to ensure services are accessible, inclusive and shaped around the needs of people who use them.
“BID Services has already been doing excellent work, and Sinéad will carry on with this work to make sure we continue to grow to help extend the reach and impact of our services.”
She joins BID from Leeds-based Inspire North, where she was its director of development and innovation.
Founded in 1890, Nottinghamshire Deaf Society (NDS) say its 400 users will not notice any changes to their regular services while the merger takes place, with the NDS name and branding staying in place for now.
A spokesperson for the charity said: “This merger is not about taking over. Nottinghamshire Deaf Society trustees recognised the challenges that the charity was facing and that by working with another charity NDS would be in a stronger position to sustain local services and ensure the people of Nottinghamshire have support for many years to come.
“NDS approached BID Services to support with this due to our shared history, values and culture.”
As well as supporting people in the deaf community, BID also works with those who are deafblind, have impaired vision, or other adjacent disabilities.
