Том Форд снимет экранизацию «Cry to Heaven» с Аделой в главной роли

A lot of people like to think of themselves as stupidly multi-talented, but few have proven it like Tom Ford. The guy is a fashion-world GOAT: that much has been uncontested since the ‘90s. And then, in 2009, he pivoted to making movies — beginning with the ravishing queer tragedy A Single Man, as visually sumptuous as his greatest runway collections. (Go figure, the clothes all looked pretty great too. All these years later, we still want to cop Nicholas Hoult’s furry sweater.) He followed it up with the 2016 killer thriller Nocturnal Animals, again steeped in style. And a great time at the movies, even if it was bleak as fuck. Hence why film nerds are so incredibly up for his next one: Cry to Heaven, an adaptation of the 1982 Anne Rice novel — the author best known for Interview with the Vampire — set against the cutthroat backdrop of Italian opera in the 18th century. Many had thought it would arrive at one of the autumn film festivals this year, probably a swanky red carpet debut at Venice, where a ton of prospective Oscar contenders get their start. But the latest word from Variety suggests that it'll now more likely land in 2027, with the film yet to secure a distributor. That'll make it Ford's first major movie project in over a decade. The Rice novel primarily concerns two Italian men, Guido and Tonio. The former is a “castrato,” belonging to the era's class of young male singers who were brutally castrated as teenagers to preserve their angelic voices, while the latter belongs to a noble family from Venice. He too later is castrated — and Guido, struck by his phenomenal soprano tones, takes Tonio under his wing. “In eighteenth-century Italy the Castrati recreated heaven on earth. Those who achieved fame were showered with riches and sexual favours, but their success also hid a terrible sadness,” reads the official book synopsis, hinting towards the dark undertones that lie beneath Cry to Heaven's glamorous world. Sounds about right for a Tom Ford joint. The Cry to Heaven cast is packed to the balconies with British acting talent, many of whom have worked with Ford before. From the contingent of Single Man alum, you've got Hoult and Colin Firth; over on the Nocturnal Animals side, there's Bond favourite Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Owen Cooper, aka the kid from Netflix mega-hit Adolescence who swept the TV awards last year, is also on the über starry cast sheet, as is Euphoria's Hunter Schaffer. But perhaps the most exciting — and definitely the most interesting — acquisition is a modern musical icon set to make her acting debut: Adele, the latest A-list pop star to give it a go in front of the camera. No official word who she'll play yet, but if we had to make an incredibly daring guess, she'll probably be a singer. It's not like you can cast Adele in an opera movie and not make use of those killer vocal chords. That'd be like hiring Arnie and not have him blow up 17 helicopters. Being a Ford production, expect a proper banquet for the senses. It'll also probably be pretty depressing. But hey! At least there'll be beautiful gowns.
