Gibsonburg officer injured in stabbing expected to recover, community fundraiser planned GIBSONBURG, Ohio (WTVG) - A Gibsonburg police officer who was stabbed while responding to a trespassing call remains in the hospital more than a week after she was injured but is expected to recover, according to the police department. The update comes as the Gibsonburg community is organizing fundraising efforts for her recovery. Officer Maria Kisha still has a long road to a full recovery, Gibsonburg PD said in a statement Thursday. Kisha was stabbed in the neck on Aug. 26 and was stable after undergoing surgery in Toledo. “We would like to thank everyone that has checked on her and our department,” the statement from Gibsonburg PD read. “She has the support of her family, this department and our entire community.” Those looking to make a monetary donation to Kisha to help in her recovery journey can find a GoFundMe link here. The department asked the public to refrain from sending flowers to the hospital, but said cards can be dropped off to the police department any time and the team will make sure Kisha receives them. It comes as the tight-knit community of Gibsonburg rallied together to plan a fundraiser for her, scheduled for Sept. 19. The fundraiser will run from 2-9 p.m. at Log Yard, across from the police station in downtown Gibsonburg, to help support Kisha’s recovery. The event will have the following activities: - Car show: Madison Street, 2-5 p.m. - Kickball: Central Park, 2-4 p.m. - 5K run/walk: starts at 6 p.m., ends at Log Yard - Food served by the Gibsonburg Fire Department: 2-9 p.m. - Music: 2-9 p.m. - Corn hole games, raffles and kids’ activities Organizers said Madison Street will be closed from the stoplight at Madison and Main to the train tracks from noon to midnight.
