CNBC UK has selected MediaKind’s Beam to modernize its contribution and distribution infrastructure for live news operations. MediaKind said the project will give CNBC UK more flexibility, resilience and cloud-connected control as it moves live news feeds between geographically distributed bureaus, studios and downstream production and playout environments. The company said Beam is designed to support low-latency contribution and distribution for time-sensitive live news while also providing resilient, high-density media processing across distributed locations. “For a global news organization, speed and reliability are critical,” said Neil Burt, senior director of technical operations for EMEA at CNBC UK. “The new architecture is designed around three priorities: low latency, resiliency and channel density, while giving our operational teams greater visibility and control across distributed infrastructure.” MediaKind said Beam also uses a more flexible software model that lets processing licenses operate independently of individual servers. The company said that approach allows CNBC UK to choose appropriately sized commercial off-the-shelf infrastructure for each location. The company said other benefits include secure cloud connectivity for centralized monitoring and management, as well as a modern foundation for broadcast, contribution and streaming workflows. “Modern video infrastructure increasingly needs to combine the performance of professional media processing with the operational simplicity of cloud-connected software,” said Tony Berthaud, MediaKind senior vice president of sales for EMEA and APAC. “With Beam, CNBC UK can modernize a proven contribution and distribution environment while gaining the flexibility and control required for today’s distributed video operations.” MediaKind said the deployment reflects a broader shift in video services, with high-performance media processing at the edge paired with cloud-connected software meant to simplify operations. The company said it will showcase Beam and its broader cloud-connected portfolio for contribution, distribution, processing and streaming at IBC 2026 in Amsterdam, Sept. 11-14, at Stand 1.D71.
