CROIX, UVI – Club Med has officially broken ground on Club Med St. Croix, which will mark the all-inclusive resort operator’s return to the United States and first property in the U.S. Virgin Islands when it opens in 2027. Club Med President and CEO Stéphane Maquaire was joined by Edward B. Pitoniak, CEO of VICI Properties, the resort’s development partner, and several U.S. Virgin Islands government officials, including Lt. Gov. Tregenza A. Roach, for the groundbreaking ceremony on July 15. “For decades, we have had the privilege of welcoming travelers to some of the most desirable vacation destinations in the world, and every destination has its own personality, its own culture, its own story. St. Croix has always been one worth telling,” Maquaire said. “Club Med St. Croix will be a place for couples seeking a romantic escape, for families creating lifelong memories, for companies bringing teams together, for Cruzans celebrating special events, and for friends from around the world discovering the history, the beauty, and the culture of St. Croix for the very first time, as I did in November last year.” Maquaire added that the new resort will join the Exclusive Collection, “representing the most elevated expression of the Club Med experience.” The company just made the property signing about one month ago. Club Med St. Croix will aim to offer a relaxed, destination-driven experience geared toward couples, friends, multigenerational travelers, and families with children ages 12 and up. The resort is located about 20 minutes from the island’s international airport, nestled between a crescent beach and tropical rainforest, with views of the Caribbean Sea. It will feature a spa, pickleball courts and access to watersports, elevated dining, and more. For travel advisors, Club Med St. Croix will offer a convenient gateway into selling the Club Med brand, especially to travelers who are U.S. citizens and do not need a passport to travel to the destination. Club Med St. Croix will also create about 200 full-time jobs on the island, and 80% will be filled by U.S. Virgin Islanders. “If your interest is in culture, if your interest is in providing your guests a unique experience, you could have made no better choice than the north shore of St. Croix, than the Virgin Islands, to bring this venture,” Roach said. “We have an interest in making sure that when we bring items of economic development that they reflect our interests in growing our workforce.” The former property, the 150-key Carambola Beach Resort, is now closed so that a full-scale transformation can begin on the new resort. Club Med’s triton logo already appears sprayed onto windows throughout the resort lobby. This logo, Pitoniak said, reminds him of the strong partnership between UVI officials, Club Med, and VICI to make the resort a reality. He said VICI is not only investing in Club Med but also “expressing our belief in the people of St. Croix and the Virgin Islands.” “We want to enable you all to make this place a wonderful expression of who you are and who you want to be for generations to come,” Pitoniak said. “The trinity that we’re forming here today is one we’re very excited and honored to be part of, and we look forward to coming back for years to come to see what you all create here and enjoy it ourselves, and moreover, witness the enjoyment you bring to people from around the world.”
