Пианист Брюс Лю: альбом «Lunaris» о ночном вдохновении и свете луны

Bruce Liu has long felt that his best musical ideas came to him in the nighttime hours. Before his prestigious victory at the 2021 International Chopin Piano Competition, the Chinese-Canadian pianist found that many of his best musical ideas came to him in dreams. Now, as he tours the world performing both solo recitals and in orchestral settings, he often finds himself working late into the night with no shortage of inspiration to keep him awake. “It’s often the only time that silence and concentration, in the sense of timelessness, are possible,” Liu says. That timelessness is channeled into Liu’s latest record Lunaris, which is Classic 107’s Album of the Month for September. It is the second time that this station has featured Liu’s recordings in this fashion with his previous recording of Tchaikovsky’s The Seasons capturing our airwaves in November of 2024. Liu runs the gamut of everything from the beloved “Moonlight” and “Waldstein” sonatas of Ludwig van Beethoven to Alexander Scriabin’s fourth sonata to John Cage’s “Dream”. Each element of the record evokes a different reflection of the moon’s light and the vexing effect it has on those who live in it. “The night is the moment when reflection and creative energy meet,” notes the pianist. “The idea of Lunaris came to me as a word that sounds both familiar and mysterious. The root, ‘luna’, immediately evokes the moon, the night and a certain kind of light that is indirect and deeply intimate. It describes those hours when the external world becomes quiet and the inner world opens a space for imagination, for sensitivity, and for a different perception of time.” Classic 107 listeners can hear excerpts from Lunaris on Morning Light with Nolan Kehler just after 7:30 a.m. every Wednesday morning.
