Lagos, Nigeria – [September 4, 2026] – City Distro, a Nigerian startup, is building technology-enabled distribution infrastructure to help emerging consumer brands reach thousands of retailers across Africa, starting from the factory floor to the last-mile retailer. The company currently operates its digital distribution platform across seven key Nigerian hubs and is set to expand across the continent.
Africa’s FMCG sector is among the fastest-growing consumer markets globally, valued at an estimated $628 billion in 2025, and projected to reach $1.047 trillion by 2033. Nigeria, the continent’s largest economy, offers a clear window into both the scale of the opportunity and the depth of the challenge, recording an estimated 54.1% growth in value in 2025. Yet across much of Africa, distribution remains largely driven by informal retail and is deeply inefficient, characterised by multiple informal middlemen, manual processes, limited data visibility, and unreliable logistics.
The result is higher product costs, thinner margins, frequent stockouts, and constrained growth for local manufacturers and emerging brands across the continent. At a time when many African economies continue to navigate inflationary pressures, currency volatility, and persistent supply chain inefficiencies, efficient consumer distribution becomes even more critical to sustaining demand, unlocking scale, and driving economic growth.
Built to serve emerging and challenger brands, City Distro is providing a much-needed operating system for everyday commerce across Nigeria, combining technology, logistics, and data intelligence into one connected system. To solve these structural bottlenecks, the company enables manufacturers to reach retailers faster and more sustainably, while giving retailers the tools and access previously reserved for large modern trade chains.
“Distribution in this part of the world is inherently local and heavily last-mile driven. From over five years working across distribution networks, it’s clear that the market doesn’t respond to theory, it responds to reality. What has been missing is supply-chain intelligence. City Distro is built to deliver exactly that, combining deep, on-the-ground insight with data and technology to understand the micro-movements that truly drive commerce,” said Olamide Olabisi, Founder and CEO of City Distro.
The company also launched its proprietary technology solution for retailers. Through its technology platform, the company addresses key market bottlenecks across three areas: inventory intelligence, providing real-time visibility and enabling brands to forecast demand; direct connectivity, linking retailers directly to manufacturers to reduce intermediaries and protect margins; and optimised last-mile logistics, enabling efficient distribution through a network of micro-hubs, even in complex environments. This further provides access to integrated credit and financial infrastructure.
Over the past two years, the company has reached 1,000+ retail stores in Nigeria, including Prince Ebeano Supermarket, Foodco, Market Square, Pick n Pay, and Jendol Supermarket, distributing over 5 million units of goods worth more than $3 million, while consistently ensuring fulfilment within a 24-48 hour window. This growth spans key cities including Lagos, Abeokuta, Ibadan, Osogbo, Port Harcourt, and Abuja. City Distro currently distributes dozens of fast-moving brands across beverages, household products, and food staples, expanding access to markets often underserved by traditional distributors.
Africa’s retail economy is at an inflection point, and City Distro is positioning itself at the center of this transition. Having proven its model in Nigeria, the company plans to deepen its footprint by onboarding more manufacturers, expanding its retailer network to over 10,000 locations, strengthening logistics capacity, and rolling out enhanced technology features that improve speed, visibility, and partner experience.
The company also aims to integrate financial services that support both retailers and manufacturers, including inventory-backed credit for retailers based on actual sales data, while laying the groundwork for regional expansion across Africa.
