Cement truck driver cited after spills on multiple Lakewood roads LAKEWOOD, Ohio (WOIO) - A cement truck driver was cited after the truck spilled onto multiple roads in Lakewood Thursday afternoon. According to Director of Public Works Chris Gordon, at around 4:30 p.m., Lakewood Public Works, Lakewood Police and Lakewood Fire learned of the spill on Detroit Road. Neighbors caught the truck spilling concrete on Ring doorbell cameras. Ron Caruso was driving his kids home from school when he encountered the mess on Detroit Road. “Down Detroit Road, it was just filled with all this stuff,” Caruso said. He said he saw the cause about two blocks ahead. “And you can see two blocks ahead a at a red light a cement mixer, just pouring a pile a cement behind it,” Caruso said. Caruso tried to alert the driver. “I was trying to beep as much as I could to let the guy know he was dropping cement, but he couldn’t hear me,” Caruso said. Cement spreads onto residential street The truck continued on, spilling cement onto Caruso’s street, Larchmont Avenue. Caruso said he was concerned about the cement reaching the storm drains. “I was worried it was going to wash into the storm drains and clog everything up,” Caruso said. Caruso and his neighbors began cleaning up the cement themselves. “Our neighbor across the street came out with snow shovels and we all started scooping up as much as we could dumping it on a tarp on our lawns,” Caruso said. Crews respond, roads reopen by 8 p.m. Police, fire and public works crews arrived on the scene minutes later and immediately began closing the affected roads. “There were three bulldozers I think, scraping everything up and a street sweeper came by later as well,” Caruso said. Roads were reopened and back to normal by 8 p.m. Gordon said a police report identifies the trucking company as Triple Crown Industries. Lakewood Police cited the driver of the cement truck and will work with Triple Crown Industries to recover the cleanup costs. By the next morning, Caruso said the street showed no sign of the spill. “They stayed until it was done, if out into the street today, you wouldn’t even know what happened,” Caruso said.
